Vendor Reviews - 10/24/2009 Wedding

Venue: Chicago Marriott Magnificent Mile -- AWe picked this venue because of its proximity to Michigan Ave (great for out of town guests and family!) and because of the food. On our visit, we were given 2 cookies, just like the Doubletree. Doubletree's was a good chocolate chip... Not bad. When I got home from the Marriott, I took a bite of the iced sugar cookie (shaped like a wedding cake)... It was amazing. I have to say the cookie (and the bi-level suite) are the reason we picked Marriott. Everyone came up to say how great the food was! Even the vendors! Kristina was my coordinator and she was awesome! They had a last minute room cancellation and she moved my ceremony to the room so that we did not need to flip rooms! She was easy going and very detailed oriented. And the bi-level suite? OMG! Best suite ever!Photographer: Heather Parker -- AHeather was amazing. Mike and I hate photos of ourselves. Our package with Heather included an engagement shoot and it really helped us be more comfortable in front of a camera. Heather and her assistant showed up on time and before long I barely noticed them! We had a Chinese tea ceremony and I am sure they were confused about what was going on, but they rolled with it! I've only seen a few photos at this time, but they look great! Oh and she emailed me some teasers at 4 am the next morning! Highly Recommend!Hair/Makeup: Monique Madrid -- AMonique is a sweetheart! She did my hair at my MOH's wedding and when I told her I did not like it up, she invited me over for another trial! I ended up with a half-up do. She was patient and did an amazing job. My eyes have a tendency to tear up very easily. She put on fake eyelashes and I completely forgot I had them on all night! I am not used to seeing myself with makeup, so to me, every photo of me looked wierd! But everyone said I looked good! :)Flowers: Katya Mischenko Custom Florals -- AKatya and I used to work together and now she does flowers out of her home. The flowers were beautiful. I am not much of a flower person, so I let her have free reign. I loved my bouquet and the bridesmaids loved theirs. Prices were reasonable and the flowers were beautifulAlterations: Ms Couture -- AToola is a doll. A lot of reviews say she is flaky or rude, but I think it is the way she talks! I was low key and easy going and worked around her schedule and everything turned out fine. She tends to try and please everyone and sometimes gets very stressed about things. My dress had a longer than expected train (I swear it wasn't that long when I tried it on at the store!). She refused to cut it! "Why cut? Beautiful train! I no cut!"... and she was right. The train was beautiful and everyone thought it was a more expensive dress than it was! She made this CRAZY bustle that had my bridesmaids swearing. 20+ ties! But when it was up, it was beautiful. Toola is funny if you get her sense of humor. She kept telling me to eat the last week. And I was! Chocolate, steak, seafood, etc... But I kept losing weight. When I picked up the dress, she took a look at me, called me into her workshop and offered me baklava! "EAT!" LOL. DJ: One Stop DJ -- BI was nervous with One Stop DJ because they did not have insurance! Then they got it and had assigned me a DJ. I booked with them because they were cheap and music was not too important to me. One pet peeve was that they had assigned me a Chinese DJ, because I was Chinese! That was the reason why they assigned her to my wedding! Felt like it was a little like racial profiling! But Peggy was nice, and did her thing. Nothing exceptional, but nothing too bad either.Ceremony Music: Quartet Parapluie -- AI booked them 2 weeks before the wedding because of my nervousness of the DJ! Lucky too, because the ceremony room was down the hall from the reception! Beautiful music. I did not want the usual Cannon-type music, and they totally rocked!Photobooth: Shutterbooth -- AFor any bride who is debating whether to get one, GET ONE! It was a hit! Everyone made a beeline once they knew it was there! Just get your turn first because everyone gathers around! I bought the bookmark sleeves online, to save some money. But I can say I am happy we booked Shutterbooth.
