October too cold?

My fiance and I were planning on having our October wedding outdoors in the Chicago area. I've only lived in Chicago for less than a year, and wanted to know if October would be too cold to have an outdoor ceremony.
TIA.

It could be, I've found that weather in the fall is very unpredictable.  I'd be very cautious with an outdoor wedding in Oct.  It could be beautiful or it could be snowing.

It unfortunately probabley will be. Most of the time by halloween people are wearing winter coats. According to weather.com the average high in October is 64 and the low is 46. If it's in the beginning of October and in the early afternoon you might be able to cross your fingers and get decent weather, but otherwise I would stay inside. It's Chicago you never know it could snow.

I remember going trick or treating in a winter jacket when I was a kid. I also remember my family having an outdoor BBQ in tshirts on Halloween not that many years ago. It makes sense to pick a venue that can plan for an outdoor ceremony, but have an indoor space that would work too.

I would vote too cold for outdoors in October.

Toss up in Chicagoland. Last year was unseasonably warm, but there are years I remember snow before Halloween.  Maybe as long as you advise your guests to bundle up for your big day and it is a short ceremony, it may be possible?

I vote its too cold.  But you could do a heated tent?  Or those stand up heaters they have at bars.  But definitely have a back up plan.

My wedding is October 1 but it is going to be inside. I think that if you're planning early October you would be fine. Yes the weather is unpredictable but it's pretty much that way all year around. IMO, Spring is much more risky temperature wise then fall (i.e. it is May and still fairly cold).

I agree with everyone here, you really never know. I remember at my friends Aug 1st wedding this past year it was freezing and hailing, but then March this year was 70! I would pick a place where you could do outside if it is nice and then inside if not. October can be hot or cold, it just depends!
