when to book hair/makeup

I saw that Love is Bald posted about Sonia Roselli being booked for her wedding date and if I remember correctly, I think her wedding is later in 2011.  I know that lots of things book up early for weddings but I wasn't expecting makeup to be one of them.  How early did you book your hair/makeup people?  Our wedding is in August 2011 and I wasn't planning on dealing with that stuff until much later.  Should I get on that?

I wish engagement rings came with a timeline that told you exactly when you needed to do everything!

I would say if you can book it now - DO IT! Get it out of the way now, so that the months leading up to the wedding you can focus on DIY projects and the other gazillion things you'll need to do!

Also, the big names in hair and makeup do book up fast, so again...book early!

I agree with Kate, book early. I booked most of my vedors early. The good ones go quick!

Correct, my wedding is in September 2011!  I'm not sure if she is just not available during that weekend (it is the holiday weekend) or if she is already booked for someone else, they just told me she wasn't available.  Either way, i'm looking to book it now.  I've been so surprised at other things that have been booked already!

Agreed, book early! I used TK's timeline checklist thing and it worked our pretty well

As soon as I knew what hair/makeup vendors I wanted I booked them right way (in my case it was about 15 months in advance -- just about a month or so after I got engaged).  I didn't want to risk them being unavailable (and stressing out over finding new people).  Agree with everyone on the board - do it asap!

Well it depends on if you are hiring someone to come to you or if you are going to a salon. I found most salons don't typically book appointments farther than like 6 months, maybe 9 months out, max.

I looked into booking someone to come to me at 5 months out, and most were booked. The salon however was wide open and some of them can't even book until 3 months out.
