Flowers... Am I unrealistic?

So our wedding will be about 175-200 people. Pretty big in my opinion. A good amount of tables will be used. My FI and I LOVE Orchid plants. I was thinking how they would make beautiful, modern centerpieces with a few votives around it.

I see them all the time for $25-30 in all the Jewel, Dominicks, Whole Foods around the area. They really are beautiful, reasonably priced and in not that ugly of pots (that can be spruced up very easily). A florist will charge anywhere from $50-100 for an orchid plant.

Can you bulk order plants from common stores that have a floral department, but are not exclusively a flower shop? Has anyone every done this? Is it unrealistic of me to bulk order 20 orchid plants? Has anyone on here DIYed floral arrangements for that many tables without a florist?

I feel like the answer is no, not worth the stress, but the money saving would be astronomical so I don't want to rule it out entirely. Thoughts anyone?

One of my mom's friends does decor for weddings. She gets flowers from grocery stores all the time! Go for it!

I think you should check out Kristen from Kio Kreations. She uses lots of Orchids and gets them wholesale, like all florists do. She has wonderful certerpieces of submurged orchids, and I can guarentee you they are not that expensive!!!
I am using Kristen, and she is using lots of orchids in our wedding.

Check her out if you love orchids!!!!

I believe you can bulk order from Costco and I've heard really good things about their floral department.

    Hi girls:

I keep hearing wonderful things about Kio Kreations - but she is booked on my date. Any alternative recommendations?

    Thanks.

I'm using orchids everywhere too.  I met with GnG designs & vale of enna before I booked with Kio Kreations. I think that GnG was pretty comparable budget wise to what I am paying Kio Kreations for approx 250-280 people.  I would try Gina with GnG, she was really great about working with a budget & making suggestions to keep the flowers you want, but to maybe fill with less expensive flowers to stretch your dollar.  HTH!!

Kristin from Kio Kreations does recommend GnG if she is not available, their prices are similar.  However, I have heard great things about CostCo's floral department, so I would totally ceck it out, or there is fiftyflowers.com, which I heard is a good inepensive website.  HTH!

I think there is an Orchid Farm somewhere within an hour or two from here. My friend had her wedding at a winery and went and got the orchids from this orchid farm, planted them herself in pots and had them on the tables. Then guests took them home afterwards. I thought they looked great. I have no idea where this orchid farm is, but guessing if you google it, it might come up. Good luck!
