Help! Need a dress in 38 days! Eva's in Orland Park still doesn't have the dress!

My daughter ordered her dress at Eva's in Orland Park illinois in February and it was suppose to arrive in July.  Now they are telling us September 9th...2 weeks before the wedding!  We have heard every excuse in the books, but now googling them, they seem to do this to a lot of brides!  Question, does anyone know of a good place to buy a off the rack dress in the Chicago area?If we don't have shipment confirmation from them by Friday, I believe we will have to find something else.  This is totally heartbreaking that a business can do this to brides and ruin such a happy time for them.

I'm going to cross my fingers for you that the dress comes in on time.  In the mean tiime DEFINITELY find a back up.  I saw your post on the AA board and think you got some good advice there (ordering from Jcrew, white house black market, ann taylor).  Most of those stores do accept returns so you could always return the dress if her original comes in on time.

I would also suggest going to Eva's IN PERSON and asking them to call the designer with you present to ensure it's really going to be in on time.  Also, they better not be charging you for alteration rush charges either.  It's not your fault it took longer than anticipated.

My recommendation (I'm in Indy, not Chicago) is to call local salons and ask if they have off the rack dresses in your daughters size.  Explain the situation.  I'm sure A LOT of dress shops will be happy to take over where Eva's fell short. Also try the websites with used dresses. She may be able to find her dress just worn once.

The Bridal Boutique in Napervile/Aurora sells BEAUTIFUL bridal gowns on consignment...you won't be disappointed.  I LOVED my visit there.

I read elsewhere on the boards that this House of Hope Resale Shop in Barrington sells samples from local boutiques for $50 each, and they typically have dozens of dresses at a time - but I've never been there to vouch for that.

Have you tried googling the designer/name/style # of your daughter's dress online to see if someone's selling theirs in/near your daughter's size?

You're a wonderful mom to be doing all this to help your daughter - no matter what, her wedding will be BEAUTIFUL because it seems that there's a lot of love in your family... best wishes and good luck.

If I may ask, what desgined is your daughter's dress?  There was another bride on here once-upon-a-time who's dress came in VERY last minute, and the truthful story she ended up getting was that the factory workers in China were on strike, or something along the lines of that.

What is the reason Eva's is giving you?  I agree with PP, go in there and get some answers.

Gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about this stress! I don't know if this helps, but I have a never-before-worn Allure bridal couture gown (sz 6) that I am selling for $300 (bought for $1300). I bought another and need to get rid of this one before the wedding. Please contact me if I can help -- I am in Lincoln Square, Chicago.
