When to start looking into travel agents for HM

We were going to start looking into and hopefully booking with a travel agent in January for our June wedding. I'm not sure if this is too early or not.

Also, how do travel agents work? What should I know going in?

I've never used one before but I would feel more comfortable booking our HM with one.

It's never too early! We booked our honeymoon for our July 23 wedding around Thanksgiving time. I would say to definitely be looking around and book in the next month or so.

As for travel agents, I had a great experience with Nancy from My Island Getaways. I've also heard Jennifer from VIP is nice. I used Nancy so I can recommend her. In fact, she pulled some strings and got a price for us that had expired the day before! We're so excited for our St. Lucia honeymoon:)

I know Nancy has been to several all inclusives in the Carribean and Mexico. She has other destinations also, but I think those are her specialties. Go to myislandgetaways.com for more info.

    Good luck!

I realized I didn't really answer all your questions. I would say before calling to know what you want (all inclusive, scuba diving, active stuff to do, shopping, whatever) and do some research on your own. Also, when the travel agent prices stuff for you, look yourself too to make sure your'e getting the best deal.

This is what I did and it seemed to work out well.

I've always gone through Lincoln Travel & Cruises in Frankfort.  I've worked mostly with Joan, but all the girls are great.  (Not sure if Joan is even still around, since it has been a while and she was close to retirement age.)  Joan got my bff and I to Oahu with nonstop flights and a hotel right on the beach for $1500 for 6 days - and that included the $$ we spent on eating out and a handful of souvenirs!  When we called her from the beach, begging for an extra day, she told us to call her back in 30 minutes and she'd have a price for us - and she did!

As for what to know, you don't necessarily need to know all that much.  We just told her we wanted to go somewhere warm and somewhere with a lot of different things to do.  She did all the work and presented us with 4 options.  When FI (then bf) and I booked our cruise through her, all we told her was we wanted to go on a cruise and told her our budget.  She picked an AMAZING itinerary and a beautiful ship and it was one of the best vacations of my life!  If you know what you want, great.  If you don't know, that's ok too - they know what they're doing.
