Candy bar or no candy bar?

I am looking for a cool cheap way to do wedding favors... we loved the candy bar idea. Any suggestions for how to do wedding favors on a budget or how to do the candy bar on a budget?

What is your budget for the candy bar?  I think it would depend a lot on the candies you would want to use.  How much you spend on the containers, etc?  How many guest are there?  You should be able to do it.  Check out the favor board under special topics because I think they have had posts regarding candy bars.

You can bake your own cookies or something if you are good baker and package them nicely as wedding favors.  CD.  I am sure there are more and they shouldn't cost you much.

My vote is no, just because I feel like they are over done these days.   A couple years ago they were really unique and now it seems like everyone has one.  Just my 2 cents!

See I think people who are on the knot think they are overdone, because we see pictures of them all the time. I think I have been to maybe 1 wedding in my life that actually had a candy bar.

I think they are a good idea for a favor compared to some of the crap things you can buy for favors.

I think a candy bar on a budget is completely feasible.  Also, I have yet to go to a wedding with a candy bar, so I don't think it's overdone.  It's not like people are going to weddings every single weekend, so even if they've been to 2 or 3 with candy bars, it's not likely that you'll have a whole contingent of people saying, "Ugh, this is so 2009!" or "Man, I don't want candy AGAIN!"  Who doesn't like candy? :)

Anyway, after reading these boards for several months and perusing Craig's List for wedding items for sale, there are TONS of candy bar supplies that you could pick up.  There's a bunch of large vases for sale, the tongs or spoons are super cheap, and there are several affordable options for methods of taking the candy home.  Michael's always has 40% off coupons, and they have little favor boxes and bags you can buy for very cheap.  There are also websites that offer these things.  I think your main expense would end up being the candy, and that's up to you as to how much and what kind you want to buy.  Sam's and Costco are good places to go to get large quantities for cheap.

Maybe its just the weddings I go to then....I have literally been to 6 weddings in the past 1.5 years and have seen 4 candy bars.  I guess they just lost their novelty to me.

Archiver's Scrapbook store has the die cuts for boxes, cones, take out type containers, etc and you can buy 8.5x11'' paper in bulk and make 100+ candy boxes for about $5.00 plus any ribbons or embellishments. We were going to go that route for our sweets bar until I bought another knottie's leftover favor boxes for cheap-thanks Rie! :)

The glassine (sp?) bags are also a cost effective option and you can spruce them up with a ribbon in your wedding colors.

As far as the goodies themselves, we are having our family help out by bringing in some family favorites. Other options would be buying bulk candy from Costco/Sams or doing at least one popcorn option (more volume). Also look at buying the jars/containers themselves from other knotties or places like TJ Maxx Homegoods and dollartreedirect.com.

Unless I'm getting food as a wedding favor, it's most likely ending up in the garbage.  If you like the idea of a candy bar, do it.  I'm having one.  I don't care if it's been overdone.  I think most people like candy, and will actually use the favor you give them.   I'd hate to spend money on 100+ favors that will never be used.

I say it's a great idea ;)  I am having one - and so far, out of the weddings I've been invited to, it's never been done, so I feel a little special.  Haha.  Anyways...I haven't yet figured out the costs, but for costs...maybe try buying candy in bulk at a Sam's or CostCo.  Michael's Arts & Crafts as well as Jo Ann fabrics have coupons almost every week.  I think I heard IKEA has really cheap vases as well.  Oh I bought these bags at paper mart - http://www.papermart.com/Product%20Pages/Product.aspx?GroupID=15357&SubGroupID=15358&SearchItemNumber=7731000#7731000 - clear small frosted bag.  I think it's the perfect size...not too small, not too large, and I'm printing out our monogram on Avery circle stickers.  GL :)

We were going to do a candy buffet, but now we have decided to do cookies. It's cheaper and would be more popular for our crowd. My mom's cookies are very famous among our friends and family so she wants to bake the cookies and I think they will be a big hit.

You can also check out favorfavor.com  They have really cute and inexpensive favors. I am getting the seating card holders and then people can use them as picture holders when they take them home. I still have mine that my girlfriend gave away at her wedding 5 years ago!!
And the whole time, my future husband was in the room...... image image

I think they are cute... and very do-able on a budget.
