Indie Wed

I am just engaged (three weeks ago!) and am already excited and anxious for planning!  Though my fiance and I are probably going to set the date for May 2011, I'm ready to start booking things.  I saw an ad for an upcomign wedding show that looks really unique: http://www.indiewed.com/; local vendors and lots of handmade, crafty things!

Question--any tips for newly engaged ladies like me who are going to go to their first bridal show? Anything to stay away from?Any must try/do things?

I've only been to one.  My only advice is, give a fake phone number unless you don't mind vendor calls.  I got many calls from dJs, photography, floral, tuxes, and lots of pushy reception halls.

And a fake address....and setup a separate email account for all wedding stuff because you will be bombarded!

Take a clipboard. Everyone wants you to fill out things but there is no table space to do it. An eco shopping bag doesn't hurt either (or figure out which table is giving out the best bags and go there first)

Make address labels (even if you give out a fake address).  That way, you don't have to write it out every time.  You can put the wedding email address and a "general" phone number on the same label.

the lady who made my reception hairpiece (pic below and in bio) is going to be showing at Indie Wed! Love, Lulu Mae is the name. Check her out! =)

Okay so anyway...yes definitely create a new email address for wedding stuff. Keeps things together plus you get spammed. Though I feel like since this is supposed to be more offbeat, they may not pull the same tactics like selling your name to vendor lists.

one thing to note is if you put your cell phone number down, a lot of the wedding expo vendors tend to bombard with sales calls.

I second not giving out the phone number...I'm still getting calls two years after attending one bridal show event.
