We are going to dance lessons in Naperville. We paid $60 for unlimited classes for the both of us. I personally, don't like going. I don't get to dance with just my fiance. Thruout the class you are constantly switching partners. I think they do this to encourage people to come when they don't have a dance partner. If I could go back I would have done private lessons.

i take dance at the Old Town School in Lincoln Square (not partner dancing though) but it seems like all their classes are very popular. and i know they have like "workshop" classes that just meet once to give you some basic steps....

I recommend Szewai Lee (www.ballroomdancechicago.com or you can reach her at szewai.dance@gmail.com).  I'm not sure if she does group stuff, but we are taking private lessons with her and her partner, Matthew.  We just had our first lesson with them last week.  We've never done this before, but she they put us at ease and they were very patient.  We're not very good.  Haha.  GL :)

I also recommend lessons with Szewai Lee (her first named is pronounced as C Y). Szewai and Matthew teach at their studio near Irving Park and Damen.  They taught us several Rhumba steps and helped us feel more confident when having to dance in front of 200 people.  HTH

Try your local community college.  We are taking classes at Harper College in Palatine.  It's inexpensive and fun.  You won't get the same one-on-one experience as a private lesson, but for $100/per person for 12 classes, it isn't bad.

We're very with it so far, but with over a year to go, we've got time to take weekly classes and still be good.

You will swap partners around, but it does actually help you dance better.

I also recommend Szewai Lee and Matthew- they moved to Ravenswood a few months ago to a larger studio...we had a blast taking our lessons from them.  It was the one thing I looked forward to in during our planning...we choked during our first dance at the reception b/c the song was played way to fast by the band.  Still well worth it!
