maui hula dancer?

We are holding a welcome reception the evening before our wedding (in place of a rehearsal dinner) where all of our guests can enjoy some pupus and cocktails.  We thought it would be fun to have some live entertainment (hula dancer?) for the guests to enjoy.  Anyone know how we'd go about arranging this?  Do hula dancers ever contract independently or is it always through a big entertainment company?  Do hula schools ever do keiki (kid) shows?  We'll be in Kapalua.

The cousin of my hubby to be is in a hula halau on Oahu.  We were stressing about some kind of reception program and she suggested hiring a couple dancers.  She said that some halau will allow their dancers to be hired to perform at outside events.  She told me that the going rate at their halau is $50 for each dancer.  However, I did not ask about how long they would dance for though.  The singers/guitar/ukulele players from her halau played at a family party for about 2 hours and charged only $300.  I didn't think that was half bad.  You may have to check if you would have to hire the singers to get the dancers to perform though. Hope this helps.

we also are thinking of going the same route as you and having hula entertainment at our welcome dinner.  we are booking all of our entertainment through tropical maui weddings.  i think its $150 just for the hula dancer, not sure how long.

Lori from Tropical Maui Weddings helped us book the hula dancers for the wedding.  It was $150 -$200 for each dancer.  We had a guy and a girl for an hour.
