Shelley from Mariah's Mane?

Hi all - My wedding coordinator is suggesting I use Shelly from Mariah's Mane to do my hair and make-up on the day of the wedding. (I am getting married on Maui, by the way). Shelly charges $200 for THE WORKS package, which includes hair, make-up, false eyelashes and flowers for my hair (which I likely won't use).  There is also a $75 travel fee to my wedding location on top of that.  And I assume I should plan for a tip as well.  I've been in several weddings, and $275 seems pretty steep for hair and make-up to me.  So, my question is, has anyone hired Shelly before?  What are your thoughts on her work?  If you are not using Shelley, would you mind sharing who you hired and what they charged? TIA!!Billie

WOW I haven't gotten anyone picked out yet, but that does seem a bit stiff.  If it were me I would shop around some more.... Sorry i don't have any referrals.

I used Shelly, but I didn't have the travel fee. Actually, as steep as it sounds, I found her to be one of the lesser expensive choices on Maui. Everyone on TK recommends Jessica and Dan, but together (because they each only do eithe hair or makeup, not both) they are even more than this. Shelly did an AMAZING job on my mother...she was absolutely stunning. I did like what she did with me, but honestly I felt like she was a bit rushed with me. I sort of felt like she did my mom first (at my request), but then we were running out of time to do me. My makeup did look great, and my hair was what I asked for, so I really can't complain...I just felt a little stressed when the limo called to tell me they were there, and Shelly was still doing my makeup, and I wasn't even dressed yet! Overall, she did a good job, the makeup (mostly) lasted through my sweaty dancing, and the hair held up well.

That does sound like a lot, but it is actually kind of normal in HI. I am using Jean Muldoon and she is about $200 - $250 depending on where you are. I have not heard about Shelly, but for me its all about if the hair stylist fits my "look". Its worth it to get a person who you feel does styles that you look at and think that its so you! I started with someone cheaper but then cancelled because her style just wasnt right for me. Good luck!!

I used Shelley - Pics in my bio.  I was very pleased.  I actually didn't use her flowers b/c my florist randomly brought better ones.  But she decided to put the ones she brought in my BM's hair which was super nice (since none of them were getting H&M done).I thought she was the most reasonable options because there was only one set of travel fees and "early morning" fees (I had a morning wedding) instead of paying for a hair and makeup person separately.BUT, nothing in HI is "reasonable" compared to the prices I could get at home.  No flames, but -  I didn't tip the normal 20% or whatever is recommended these days.  My mom did give her a nominal amount because we felt she did a great job and went above and beyond (by placing flowers in all the other girls' hair...).  But other than that I felt like if I was paying her the fee she set PLUS a fee for the fact that she had to get up early that was enough.  But for the wedding as a whole I only tipped when people met and exceeded expectations.

I don't know where in Maui you are getting married, but I too am getting married in Maui on Nov 14th. I am using the Marriott Wailea Beach Resort spa called the Mandara Spa, I got a great deal I am getting hair and make-up for $150. I think that is a pretty amazing deal and they have already sent me pictures of sample make-up and hair. Wailea is far if you are getting married in Lahaina but if you are in Kihei, it is about a 5 min drive!!!!
