When should I order??

Hey everyone! I found my dress when I was visiting my parents at the end of June. I totally convinced it is the one! (see my bio). The lady at the shop said it takes 4 months to order. My mom's concern is that if I buy it too early, it will yellow by the time the reception comes around. I want it in ivory, not like stark white, so I think it will be okay. The shop labeled the dress with their own number so I have no idea who makes the dress and they won't tell me until I buy it. So what if it gets discontinued if I wait too long? I will be soo disappointed. Should I just order it now? Wait a little bit? Anyone have any troubles with dresses yellowing?

I think I bought my dress in July for my March wedding...so about 8 months in advance.  It arrived in December.  I had the bridal shop hold the dress for me until I started my fittings in February. Do you think anything will change if you were to buy the dress now...weight fluctuations, change in taste, etc.?  If so, I would hold off on buying until you're a little closer. If you're comfortable with purchasing now, I'd say go for it.  Could you ask the bridal shop to hold the dress for you until your fittings begin?Did you express your concerns (dress yellowing, design discontinuation) to the bridal shop?  Did they have any advice or assurances for you?

Hi Aubrey That is a beautiful dress! I got one dress shop to tell me the name of a dress they relabeled by asking them where I could find "nice" magazine-type pictures from the manufacturer so I could show my bridesmaids and get their opinion before I buy. And I meant to tell you about this earlier when you were still in New Orleans but lots of the girls on my local Atlanta board rave about a place called Pearls Place - that supposedly has lower prices than lots of the other dress shops (they also ship). I don't think it's too early since you can always store it in a breathable garment bag. Good luck!

Oh, as far as dress yellowing is concerned, I think as long as you properly store your dress (non-acidic, breathable garment bag and away from excessive humidity), it should be okay.  Although, I'd ask someone more knowledgable first.  I'm sure different types of fabric require different types of care.  I asked the bridal shop to hold it for me because I have 2 cats and was paranoid about all that could possibly go wrong.  :P After I got married, my dress hung in our foyer, covered with a plastic garment bag (okay, it was actually a pink garbage-bag-looking thing that they use to cover dresses) and it was fine from March until November (I just loved my dress and couldn't let go).  :P  No signs of mold or yellowing.

okay thanks! I guess I'd like to get it in hand around March since that's when I'll be moving back to Hawai'i. I think I'm going to get all my fittings done there since I'm pretty sure I may go back to California once between March and the wedding in October. I'm just kinda freaked out about waiting so long! Just praying that they'll still have it :)

I ordered mine at 11 months out. They told me it would take 6-9 months to get it, and I got it in just under 6 months (5 months before the wedding). I really don't think a dress will yellow in less than a year if stored properly. Dresses yellow after many years of improper storage, not merely months. If you know for certain it's what you want, then I say order it.

Oh my gosh that dress is beautiful!! GET IT (if you love it hehe). It sounds like you really love this dress, and I can promise you it wont yellow in less than a year!! Yellowing happens over years, you will be fine. If you love it, go for it!! P.S. to make you feel better my sis got married 5 years ago in a stark white dress and its just hanging in her closet...there has been no yellowing yet :)

Do you live in a humid area?  When we first moved into our townhouse, I had to learn the hard way to make sure there was an ample supply of DampRid in our closets.  Some of the clothes I hadn't used in a few months had nasty mold spots on them.  :(

Because I was living in Japan, the only chance I had to buy a dress was when I came back for a visit 15 months before the wedding.  The dress arrived in December and the dress salon held it for me until the following November.  I didn't have any problems with yellowing. If you love it and know that you won't change your mind, I see no harm in ordering it now.  =)  Perhaps if you post some details about the dress on the dress board, one of the girls could ID the maker for you?  I'm always amazed at how much some of those girls know about wedding dresses!

definitely get it... it won't yellow that fast unless you leave it on your back porch or something haha... anyways by the time they get it.. alter it... i'm sure you won't have it for that long.. if anything maybe delay your alterations so it stays in the store longer!

I ordered mine a year in advance!  It came 7 months later and I kept it for months until it was ready to be altered.  There was no yellowing or any other signs of aging, so I think you'll be fine!

Gorgeous Dress & looks FAB on you!  I bought mine 7 mos before wedding, left it to be stored at the shop until I went to start my fittings in July.  I was worried about the same things, but I still LOVE it...  Honestly, it was a huge relief to get that box checked off...  and no trouble with yellowing... mine is dupioni silk., ivory & looks same as day I tried it on.

okay, thanks everyone!!! I feel much better :) The good thing is that I don't think I'm going to change much shape-wise (I exercise pretty regularly and there is no way I'm going to lose a lot of weight) and I'd rather just have the peace of mind. I'll probably keep it in CA and it's not too humid there so that'll be good. DampRid is a great idea! Thanks everyone!

Aubrey, I love your dress!  Just buy it! I don't think that it will yellow that fast unless you're talking years later... :)  And, this is totally unrelated, but I think Salt Creek Grille is a great choice for your CA celebration = yummy!
