Lani Reception Ideas?

Hi ladies...need some ideas, please!  I'm American and FI is Japanese.  We are getting married next June at Lani and are TRYING to think of something fun to have/do at the reception.  I'm worried about our families/friends not really being able to communicate!  Dancing is out...we have tossed around the idea of having live Hawaiian music/hula, but that could be expensive.  Any other ideas, besides lots of alcohol?  :)  THANK YOU!!!

Congratulations on your engagement!Lani is so beautiful. You may want to talk to Aunt Nettie the caretaker, she could give you info on keikei hula (children hula) which would be sweet and fun!  I also think less expensive. You may want to talk to Paradise Cove and see if anyone wants to "moonlight" and show traditional arts and crafts that guests can do (i.e. lei making, traditional games).page "Eacerna" Erika had keikei hula for their welcome lunch.she might be on "The Nest" board.Good luck!  You'll love the lovely ladies on this board.

machan, konnichiwa! i'm from kansas and my FI is japanese and we are getting married next june at Lani, too!!!  i am pretty sure that you replied to my newbie post a month or two ago and introduced yourself (~i think, sorry if i'm wrong)?.  FI and I will definitely be all about the dancing & crazy gaijin-style wedding, but we decided to bring a sushi chef in to surpise the japanese guests - and kansans will be shocked, too (not a lot of fresh fish in the mid-west).  you could have some local japanese obaasans come and do traditional japanese dancing and then teach the guests how to do it (instead of the hula) - they'd probably really love to do it! i'll try to think of more. xo

ya a sushi chef would be awesome - one of the knotties (can't remember who) hired a sushi chef for their rehearsal dinner I think... I remember seeing it on their bio and I looked them up a long time ago and it wasn't that expensive. Also, lots of BONZAI toasts!!  You could serve Mochi for dessert too or incorporate cherry blossoms into your theme.. or hire Taiko drummers... just throwing out the first things that come to mind!
