POLL: Officiants

I haven't even thought about who was going to officiate our wedding yet.  I was wondering:1. Who is officiating your ceremony?2. Do they have a set fee or take donations?3. How much is the fee/are you donating?4. What did you look for in an officiant?5. What kind of questions did you ask when looking for an officiant?Bonus Question:  Has anyone used Rev. Michael Nelson?  He was recommended to us, but I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts...TIA!

    1. Who's officiating: Our pastor from New Hope Diamond Head, Fernando Castillo. 2. Set fee or take donations? We're not sure yet :) 3. Hmm we haven't talked about it yet! 4. What did you look for in an officiant? We wanted someone we knew and who knew us well, so it was a no-brainer that we'd want our pastor from our church! 5. Kinds of questions - since he already knew us, we just asked him if he was free and would do us the honor of marrying us! 6. nope :)

    1. Who is officiating your ceremony? We are actually flying in my high school/college youth leader who is now a pastor. She has been instrumental in my faith, and I couldn't imagine getting married without her there!! 2. Do they have a set fee or take donations? She just takes donations, but since we are flying her in and paying for her accomodations and covering the majority of her meals, we assume that will suffice!! Who wouldn't want a free trip to Hawaii!! Those are really the only questions that pertain to my situation. But here you have it =)

    1. Kahu Bruce is officiating our ceremony.2.  He does have a set fee plus travel fees depending on your wedding site.3.  We are paying about $3004.  Someone that was flexible and accomodating, not too strict, someone very personable...and Kahu Bruce is all of those!Sorry chica, never used Rev. Nelson but I think he was also recommended to us by our WC!

    1.  We're using Pastor Ron Valenciana who was suggested by our WC at Turtle Bay.2.  Set fee3.  $2504.  I liked that he gives you several ceremonies to choose from, but let's you customize your ceremony to whatever you want.Hope that helps!

    1. Pastor Laki Ka'ahumanu 2. His fee is included as part of our wedding package. I believe it's around $200? 3. Haven't thought about a donation yet... 4. Originally we didn't want a religious ceremony or 'pastor' to marry us. However, he was recommended by our coordinator. I had not heard of him so I google'd him and found out that he came from a rough past, overcame it, started a church, and has done tramendous things for his community, including 17 children and opening his home to the homeless. Character speaks millions... 5. I wanted to see examples of his ceremonies and to hear personal testimonies from others. Sorry, I am not familiar with rev. Michael Nelson. How did you hear about him?

Regarding Rev. Mike Nelson, check out redshoegirl's review here: http://community.theknot.com/cs/ks/user/default.aspx?username=redshoegirl&NestProfile=0Also, a friend of mine booked him for her ceremony.  She called a few weeks prior to her wedding date to ask some questions.  He had no idea who she was, nor did he have her reservation.  Luckily, he was still available for her wedding date.  In the end, my friend was pleased with the ceremony he performed.
