Kihei Condos for our guests??

Hi Maui brides! We are looking for condos in Kihei for our guests to stay in that are around $130 or lower for 1 bedroom and beachfront. We'll have about 50 people and we'd all love to stay together, bbq, jacuzzi etc. We've found Mana Kai and Sugar Beach condos but it's so hard to know what's nice without being there. Any advice?? Most of them won't let us get room blocks so we're trying to figure it out fast so our family can book! Thanks for your help!!

Do you have the Maui Revealed book? If not, get it - you'll want it later anyways. I learned from reading the book before our vacation last year that some of the beach north of the Kamaole beaches is not swimmable due to drainage into the ocean causing harmful algae growth (or something like that). If you don't care if the beachfront condo has a swimmable beach in front of it, then this doesn't matter, but it'd be good to know before booking so your guests know what to expect. I can't remember off the top of my head where the unswimmable part exactly starts and stops, but it's significant, and if I were you I wouldn't rely on a condo owner to tell me - just look it up yourself to be sure.

Im looking in the same area, but we are also looking at Kealia Condos as well, which is right next to Sugar Beach Condos. I would say look at http://www.wizardpub.com/maui/mauaerials.html It has all the places to stay, and it shows you an aerial view of each on, and says whether you should stay or not, gives alittle info, and the price. Also, I like to look on tripadvisor.com because I can read honest people's reviews and also look at pictures that people submitted. My grandma has almost always stayed at Sugar Beach, and she says its nice and affordable.

We are staying at the Aston Maui Banyan, which has the option for one and two bedroom condos, with a full kitchen, pool ,etc. The place is beautiful and has really amazing reviews. It is also right across from Kamaole Beach II, so from reading above I think it would be swimable, or at least I have been told that it is! The rates are amazing, and we used our Travel Agent and got one bedroom condos, ocean view, for about $100 + tax a night. I would check them out, and in about 2 months I will have a review for you as I will be there getting married!!!!!!

We've stayed at the Maui Banyan a few times now and wouldn't stay anywhere else, love the place!!!  Great location, beautiful grounds, and they have hot tubs (seems that a lot of condos in Kihei don't have them).

The Kamaole beaches are all totally swimmable.  The algae area is to the north of them. Thanks for the recommendations!  We stayed at a time share last time I was there, but I wanted to give some condo ideas to my folks as well, so this is really helpful.

I've stayed at both the Maui Banyan and kamaole Sands.  Great location.  You should book through vbro...you deal directly with the owners thus you get negotiate your price and get to see what the unit looks like prior to booking.  Good luck! J. :-)

I heard that South Kihei is also better than North Kihei cause of the south end has better beaches. Many of my guests are staying at Kamaole Sands which is right across the street from the beach (Kam III, I think) and have booked through vrbo or other websites online. The prices are great and I've heard great things about it from other knotties.

Sugar beach is a bit outside of town and it is also very windy. South Kihei would be preferable for beaches. It is more " mom and pop" around Sugar as well.

thanks! i'll call the banyan and kamaole sands to check availability. We are nervous too because we stayed at a "swimmable beach" in Kihei last time that was all rocks and sea kelp... don't want our guests to suffer too! We'll just stay at the best one and bus them to Olowalu for the wedding :)
