Rentals question

I'm being really lazy by asking you guys instead of the rental company, but...when I rent tables/chairs, etc., am I renting for just that day? Like, do they drop off in the morning and pick up the same night? Or do they generally let you have them for the entire day, and pick up in the a.m. of the next day?Just picturing telling my family to "stuff that chicken down, the rental company is coming to take your plate back any minute!" Ha ha.

Yes, it's usually a one-day rental...you tell them what time you need it dropped off by and what time to pick up. It's not like they will take the plates out from under your guests. Your caterer can help you with your rental order.

I was wondering because my plans are a little different - we are renting a three house estate for a week, and having our wedding there also. We have a private chef coming in, so no caterers. No coordinator either (except me or my sister!) I'm just trying to figure out how to schedule a pick-up without the sort-of tackiness of disassembly while we're still all sitting around having drinks and visiting.

Well, even though you are using a private chef, I'm assuming that you will have some sort of service staff? The service staff will clear the tables after dinner, scrape the plates and put them in the containers for the rental company to pick up. This is all done in an area not near the guests...where ever the food is being prepared (sometimes it's in the rental house or sometimes there's a catering tent on the property). I highly suggest you get at least a day-of-coordinator if you are doing a dinner reception at a residence. There are so many details that you may not even be thinking about right now, it would be shame if you let things like vendor pick-ups take up your time (or your sister's) on your wedding day.

No service people either, just the chef. Our guests are our parents and our siblings, so we're keeping things very laid-back. I'm thinking, though, I might ask the rental co. if they can pick up the next a.m., and see if it'll cost extra. Thanks for your replies!

Depends on your location, we rented an estate WC had rentals delivered and set-up on day of event and then they came back the next day to pick-up.  I also would suggest at least a day-of coordinator as there were so many things we would have not have thought of on our own.

We rented for one day with JMJ and they delivered in the morning and picked it up the next day with no extra charge =)
