Destination Wedding Kit (for your gown)

Hi Ladies!Has anyone used this kit?  Just wondering.  I'm flying AA in March to OGG.  I'm trying to avoid any stress associate traveling with my gown. http://weddinggownspecialists.com/courier/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=4Ruth

I'm flying Hawaiian and I am just bringing mine in the bag, I guess Hawaiian is super nice about brides and their gowns, but I have heard that airlines appreciate a phone call ahead and then again to let the lady at the gate know you are traveling with your dress! I am also purchasing a steamer when I get to Hawaii to get the small wrinkles out that might have happened!

Thanks Tifani! I've heard the same about HA.  I was going to fly them, but got a much better deal w/AA.I worked in the airline/travel industry for many years.  I've already contacted AA.  They said that if there was room in the 1st class closet; the FA would hang it up for me.  Otherwise put it in the overhead compartment on top of other bags.  BUT, if the dress/bag is puffy (not sure on how they define a puffy bag?) they will gate check it.  There's no way I'm gate checking my wedding gown!  They must be on some good drugs to think any bride in their right mind would do that.

I haven't used the kit but am hoping that Continental will just put my gown in the first class closet. I've heard it shouldn't be a problem. I also heard from some people not to contact the airline beforehand because they might make you pay an extra fee or buy an extra seat or or something crazy like that. I assume that when brides show up to the airport with their gown, they get treated extra nice! Hopefully that is the case for all of us!

There's an option of paying for cabin baggage e.g. extra seat. But, I don't think my dress that big to warrant that.

I think I flew on AA for my wedding. I didn't call the airline ahead of time. I carried on my dress which is HUGE (probably twice my height lol). It was pretty obvious that I have a wedding gown with me. Plus, I am sure FA's who are in flights going to Hawaii see brides with huge garment bags/wedding dresses all the time. Anyway, there was no room on 1st class closet to put my gown. The FA told me to put it on the overhead bin. She laid it flat which was fine with me. . I highly suggest using double garment bags! There was a small rip on my garment bag when i arrived in Hawaii..dunno where it came from. Probably from going through security xray and all. Good thing I have double garment bag to protect my dress. I don't know what that kit is but i don't think there's a need for that. I didn't have it and i was fine. HTH!

Hi Ericka,Good to know that the FA's took care of you. I had just come across that kit (never heard of it before).  I will definitely use double garment bags - great tip! Thanks for the info!!

That brings up a good point, where did you all get an extra garmet bag big enough for your wedding dress???? I need one but can't seem to figure out where I should get one!

I would definitely save your money and just hand carry your dress.  I flew AA and had no problems going through security or storing my dress.  The FA were really cool about it and stored it in the first class cabin (I don't think first class was full).  Using two garment bags is a good idea.  I only used one and everything was ok but it's probably still a good idea just in case.Tifani, the salon where I bought my dress provided me with a zippered cloth garment bag for my dress.  I later found out that they normally give their brides a long plastic garment bags but because I was traveling with mine they gave me something "sturdier" to carry my dress with.  Let your place know that it's a destination wedding and maybe they'll offer you one???
