Hawaii

It's been 1 month and 8 emails...

and I still don't have a contract from our photographer.  He keeps telling me he hopes to have the paperwork to us soon.  I know some on this board have mentioned that communication starts to lack with Hawaii vendors once they sign a contract, but I can't even get a vendor to send me a contract!  Should I take this as a sign that he doesn't really care to have our business?  Or am I just being impatient again?  I don't know if I should start considering other options again.

If the photographer is small business and has been very busy he/she may just not have had time to do the paperwork side.  Its still a very busy time of year there

I would start considering other photographers as a back up, like I have mentioned before, I have had NO lack time in contracts or even returned contact with any of my vendors in Maui, so I feel like if they can't be responsible enough to get back to you in 8 repeat EIGHT months, that is ludacris....just my opinion!

l would definitely think about backup photographers just in case.  The original photographer we almost went with did the same thing to me (although we wanted 2 photogs and he was supposedly waiting to talk to the second shooter) and so I thought we had our photographer squared away.  One follow up email (two months after we had first started emailing) he replied stating that he could no longer do our wedding because he forgot he was booked on another "assignment" and would be out of Hawaii the week of our wedding.  It all worked out in the end though 'cause I ended up finding Frank and we both loved his work more than the other photog

I don't think you are being impatient. I know that its busy season but no response after 8 emails is ridiculous. I would think if people want business and want to build on their portfolio they would get back to potential clients in a timely manner. I can't imagine how the communication would be after you put down a deposit. I would definitely look into another photographer, especially since your wedding is only about 4 months away. Good luck!

to be fair, he has mentioned that he is busy and he has responded to each of my emails, but each email says that he hope to get me the paperwork soon.  i wait about a week before sending a follow-up because i don't want to be hounding him, but with the wedding coming up in less than four months, i'd really like to be able to check this off my list.  he's already said he could do it, but i'm the kind of person that needs the confirmation on paper.  FI is a little put off by this and wants to move on already.

hmmm... i'm having a similar experience to yours. i sort of remember that you have a DOC... kathE? or perhaps someone else. i'd ask them to start pushing the photog to get the paperwork to you. it'll just stress you out more if not :(

Send them another email and say that if they don't get back to you in a week, they're losing your business and you're going to hire someone else! Maybe that will get their attention! I'd definitely have a backup plan... 8 emails is ridiculous! At least they could have sent you an email to tell you they were busy and would respond soon.

No, you're not being impatient , I am having the same issue but with my florist....i already paid my deposit...I finally called last weekend, and he apologized and said he promised to call after that weekend...well, one week later, still nothing...it's really making me upset at this point.

Frustrating!!! I would send one last email and tell him you're going with someone else if he doesn't get you the paperwork. I don't understand how some of these vendors keep clients...I have been having the same issues with some of mine and I get so upset when they don't respond. We're paying them and they can't even get us a contract or take 5 minutes to answer some questions in an email?? It's unacceptable, I don't care how "busy" they tell you they are.
