F/U Dress Drama (long)

OMG. Ok now I'm starting to freak out. We are coming up on the 5 week mark this Sat, and I kinda have no dress. :(So during the H/M trial we found that my veil was unfinished. OY! So all in all this is how this whole dress situation looks:- Mar 2008: Ordered/designed/deposit Bride's gown, BM dresses, ties, runners, MOB dress - Dec 2008: went for a fitting for my dress - nothing was done, just cotton pattern thing to try on- Jul 2009: was supposed to p/u my dress, BM dresses, ties, runners, nothing was ready. - Sept 09: Received my dress, and BM dresses in the mail. MOH dress was too small (couldn't zip it up), and too short (stopped at her ankles). Other BM dress was too big and too long, and the rouching was weird so one strap wouldn't lay flat. I tried on my dress, but didn't really look at it much. It was kinda big, and the jacket didn't wow me. Plus the sash wasn't sewn on correctly to the jacket. This past weekend, is when we found that there was a hole at the bottom of the zipper, there was a run/snag across my butt from that hole. And the neckline was too high, not a proper sweetheart, and there were strings coming out of it (kinda unraveling), and the boning wasn't aligned properly. And then the veil stuff. So yesterday I asked the seamstress here if it would be possible to save my dress and possibly do a re-design (maybe use the lace from the jacket for the top of the dress, correct the neckline, make it strapless). She said she can probably do it, but won't be available till 10/24 to see me. She is already working on the BM dresses so I'm not totally freaking on theirs yet. I do have confidence in her, but I'm worried that she is going to find more things that are wrong with my dress and maybe it will cost more than expected or take longer than 3 weeks to do. I AM FREAKING OUT!So I scheduled an appt. with David's Bridal for Sat for my plan C. Thank god they are open here now! Maybe I'll find something there off the rack that works, and is reasonably priced. I am so over this. I am so tired, and just OVER it. And on top of this, my Mom is upset with this too. I can totally understand that too. She was the one who found the original seamstress and put her trust, time and money, and we didn't received the quality we were expecting. I feel so bad and have so many mixed feelings right now. :(Hopefully things will be resolved in time for the wedding. It has to right?

Janine - If I were you I'd start calling around to find all the bridal shops within a travel distance to you have dresses in your size to buy a sample of and start shopping at the ones that have the most options for you. Also, I think you should start looking on jcrew.com, preownedweddingdresses.com and other department stores online - they have really pretty dresses that you can order in your size. Here's a start - http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WeddingParties/Wedding_Bride.jsp http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/search/by-designer http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/6014155/0~2376776~2374327~2374331~6014155

oh, Janine, I'm so sorry, this really sucks!!  Can you go to another seamstress for the dress so that you don't have to wait until the 24th? I found a lot of stuff I liked at David's Bridal, so I think that is a good back up plan!Try not to let it get to you too much - I KNOW everything is going to work out and that you are going to look beautiful!!((((hugs)))) and major vibes!!

Janine, I'm so sorry!!!  It's hard when you're trying to save money and then get exactly what you want, and it kind of backfires.  How totally frustrating!!!  I'm sure you'll be able to find something at David's Bridal, that would be a good price, and the style you want.  I think that the spring/summer styles are all on sale.  Saying many prayers and sending many knottie vibes to you.  I can feel your pain when the clock is ticking.  We're leaving for Oahu 3 weeks from today!!!  Hang in there, okay???

Well I looked at the dress and I am confused do you want a redesign or just to fix the errors and sweetheart neckline? That can be done no problem.I would think as a seamstress she would know how important a wedding dress is. Just stay on top of her very politely.I love your dress and I seriously think a zipper fix and adjustment to the sweetheart neckline can be done at way less cost than buying a whole new dress.Maybe start researching another seamstress that can fix it in case this one bombs.I think you will be fine you have already invested so much time into this dress, you should see it through the end.

fyi, if you do have to go the David's Bridal route, find out how long it takes a dress to come in.  Your other choice is to buy from what they have in stock. Good luck!!

Thank you for the vibes ladies! Sophia - We were actually going to take the lace from the jacket and use it for the top of the dress instead. I don't like the jacket on me, it's a bit matronly and not quite what I wanted. So I wasn't going to wear it for the wedding day.  Plus, it's really hot, and since the wedding is outside, I didn't want to be uncomfortable. But I love the lace, so I wanted to save that part and re-use it. After hearing that the local seamstress had to take apart one of the BM dresses to fix it, it makes me worry about what she will find with my dress. But I'm hoping she can take care of everything like she said. I just want to prepared in case it can't happen. :)

Oh Janine!  I totally feel you!  I ended up having to get a whole new dress!  I was also going to suggest that you maybe find another seamstress.  If you trust this one then I would have her work on yours instead (since it seems to need more than the BM dresses) and find another one for your BM dresses.  For plan C, off the rack at David's is a good idea but also see if there are any sample sales going on in your area.  With only about 6 weeks before the wedding you'll end up paying so much extra for the rush fees.  Good luck!  Sending you tons and tons of knottie vibes!

Oh Janine! I am so sorry to hear about this.  You are right to have a backup plan though.  Davids tends to have a lot that can be purchased right off the rack.  Try not to worry too much because it will work out!  You are going to be beautiful on your wedding day.

Janine, I'm so sorry for your major dress drama. Major vibes that either the seamstress can fix the problems with your dress or that you find something gorgeous off the rack. When I was shopping, I was surprised by the number of off the rack gowns that were really beautiful. I know you can will look beautiful in whatever you choose. I peeked down below at your H&M trial--you look amazing. Stay encouraged. A friend of mine had a major mishap with her dress a month before the wedding. She ended up finding something on Craigslist and absolutely loved it.  Good luck and keep us updated!

MAJOR MAJOR vibes your way . . . I'm so sorry about all this and I'm praying that it all works out soon! Is it possible for the seamstress to work on your dress first and do the BMs dresses afterwards? If not, I'm positive you will be able to find something at David's Bridal that you will be able to buy off the rack as a backup. Everything will work out!!!

J....Major major vibes coming your way!  I agree with the other knotties you should look for something else just in case your original dress does not work our, but you have invested a lot of time into it, so I do hope your original look turns out.  Everything happens for a reason. So just breath and take one day at a time!  Everything will come together beautifullly!
