Questions for Summer HI brides

Were you and your guests unbearably hot during your wedding?  What did you do, or what do you wish you'd done, to beat the heat? Our wedding will be mid-August on Maui at about 4:30pm. I know it's hot then - upper 80s with some humidity.  I'm having second thoughts about having a late afternoon wedding b/c I'm afraid our ppl will melt.I'd love to hear the thoughts of anyone with experience with weddings in the hotter months. Thanks!

I didnt/am not having a summer wedding, but I do live here so I know the weather pretty well. During the summer it can get EXTREMELY hot, especially if the humidity is high (it can feel like 100 degrees. not exaggerating) I would suggest making fans of some sorf for your guest to use during the ceremony to fan themselves and block the sun. Many people on here have made fans and they are very nice, not tacky at all.If I think of another suggestion, I'll let you know.

My dress was soaked by the end of the night! Killer humidity...Paper fans were our godsends.

i chose not to do summer because i knew it'd be suuuper hot and humid, as well as more expensive for our guests! Maybe you could move your time back a little bit? Or do an early morning wedding? I agree with the paper fans - your guests will love you for it! And lots of cold ice water on hand!

Ooh, another thing we did (which people loved) - we served pineapple lemonade to the guests as they arrived (it was heavily iced). We had orginially thought of serving mai tais, but the alcohol would be too dehydrating, so we went that route instead. And, for what it's worth, no one melted until we started dancing. THAT's when it got really hot.

Yea, I've been playing with the idea of moving the whole timeline to earlier in the day.  We'll see.  Either way, I'll probably end up doing fans - found them on Oriental Trading, and I think I can manage a glue gun to attach ribbon to the handle, so that may be doable.  I also like the idea of a really cool drink before dinner instead of a cocktail.  I'll see if the restuarant has any ideas when we confirm with them.Oh, and kaesha - I fully expect to be a mess when we dance.  We'll be back at the inn by then, and I've already told ppl I'll be dancing, in the pool to cool off, then dancing some more.  :)Thanks ladies!

I had not even thought of fans.  As I was reading this post I was telling FI and he thinks I am out of my mind lol.  I'm going to have to give them some thought.

I was married in mid-June and the way we beat the heat was we were married at 9am.  It was great because pictures and everything was done by Noon than onto a great mid day reception.  Guests loved it.

I live here but chose October....which turned out to be even hotter then August...  what I learned:  go light on the make up... I think I would have been happier with less...  I wore a full fancy dress but had a simple white cocktail dress to change into for the reception if needed--never did change however...

Oh yes, mine was at 4:30 too...and I served water with fresh fruit floating in it during the ceremony (cocktails tray passed at conclusion) and had palm frond fans at all the place settings for dinner... I think the guests were fine.
