Day of Timeline

I'm trying to create a timeline for the actual ceremony/reception time but for some reason I can't figure out when cutting the cake, the speeches and the dances (mother/son, father/daughter and first dance) should take place. What did you knotties do (for the married ones) or what are you planning on doing? Is there a certain way this is supposed to go? We aren't doing a garter or bouquet toss and that was the only thing I kind of knew when it was supposed to happen. Thanks for your help ladies. The closer I get to the wedding, the more my brain shuts down it seems.

We plan to do our first dance right after our pics are taken during the cocktail hour when the dj announces us right before the start of dinner...still not sure how I want to be annouced as my FI and I are having a disagreement re: my last name...I want to keep my last name or at least hypenate but he wants me to take his...anyhoo that's another issue...not sure if we will have the father/daughter & mother/son dance...but if we do it will probably kick off the dancing portion of the reception.  The cake cutting will take place about an hour before the end of the reception...oh right now not sure if we will be doing speeches...may do this at the welcome dinner/bbq instead due to the 10:00 pm cut off time...really want to get as much dancing in as possible. HTH! J. :-)

so we get the most photo ops, we're doing things backwards: bride & groom entrance, cake cutting, toasts/speeches..then eatting...Not sure we're doing dances since ours is in a restaurant, so i'm not sure if that could even go before the actual dinner/lunch. If your ceremony and reception are at the same place, you may not have to do it this way...but it does make sure those moments are captured BEFORE your photographer runs out of time :) GL!!

We'll probably do something like this: cocktails toasts before dinner (but maybe after) dinner special dances cut cake I hear that cutting the cake is the cue to ppl that they can leave, so it's best to leave that for last.

Here's what we did (and with the military precision my family is used to):6:00 - call for dinner6:01 - Uncle does dinner blessing6:02 - 6:08: My Dad does a welcome/thank you toast/speech. At the end, he invited us up to cut the cake6:08 - 6:15 - we say thank you & then surprised everyone with the song, then cut the cake. We didn't feed it to each other because I didn't want to spoil my appetite!6:15 - plated salad course (we snuck out for extra sunset pics here)6:25 - 7:25 - dinner (we expected it to be shorter, but people kept on eating!)7:25-7:35 bridesmaid & best man did their speeches.7:35 - cake7:45 - first dance and then we stayed on the dance floor the rest of the night.
