registering for gifts

My FI and I are about 6 months from our wedding.  I have been talking to one of my bridemaids and thinks that January would be a good time for my bridal shower.  When did you all register?

A lot of people have suggested to me to register before Christmas.  That way family can get stuff off the registry for Christmas gift ideas or they can take advantage of the good sales that go on around that time of year.

Ours is next May and we've already registered. Between now and next May we'll have his birthday, possible new home, christmas, my birthday, bridal shower, and the wedding- all reasons to receive gifts. Plus, his mom began asking back in June where we were registered, so we went ahead and registered last month. If I were you, I would register beginning of November so people can take advantage of the sales before and after the holidays.

IF I were you, I would register now. Like pp said, if you register now, you will likely get gifts off your registry for Christmans, but also, if your shower is in January, then people may shop for you while they're doing their Christmas shopping, so the earlier you can get the registry together, the better. Lots of people shop early!

I had a May wedding and we did not register until after Christmas because we were worried that some items would no longer be available after the holidays.  That being said, I really don't think there is a "too soon" to register.

We are getting married next month and we registered clear back on V-day, LOL. Most everything we registered for is still available and it's been nice b/c there were things that came up after we registered that we didn't think of and I was able to just go back and add them.

We didn't register until about 2 months before my shower. I like it this way, because everything was still current and up to date as far as in stock merchandise and same pricing when our guests went shopping.I ran into no problems at all doing it just a few months before the shower (which was about 6 weeks before my wedding)
