Travel steamer?

The place where I got my wedding dress highly recommended that I bring my own steamer rather than get it professionally steamed when I arrive (which is what I had planned to do). She showed us at the store how to do it and its fairly easy and quick. But the question is, what travel size steamer do I buy?I really appreciate any and all suggestions!!!

I am going to do this too and just buy one at the Queen K mall right by the airport in Kahului. I think they are like $25 plus then I don't have to pack it! If you want I can give it to yvonne for you, with the parasol, then you don't have to buy one! Let me know!

I am contemplating the same issue! I was going to go with one from Herberger's Deparment store, on sale for about $10. I would think any size small one would work, you don't want to take up too much suitcase space. Another idea is to hang it up and spread it out in your room when you get there, and if the bathroom is big enough I have heard of people hanging it up in there when they shower??

good idea!!! i think i might do that too, if it's cheaper than getting it professionally pressed...which is 50 bucks in oahu...anyone know if i can get a small travel steamer iron for cheaper??

make sure your dress can be steamed because I happened to mention that I would get it steamed in Maui and the boutique owner almost had a fit.  My dress is raw silk and can only be ironed on cool.  So PLEASE make sure your material can be steamed before you do this.

Well now I'm wavering...my sister just reminded me that she tried a travel steamer for her wedding dress and it didn't work. She had to scramble last minute to get it professionally done. I also asked my WC about it and she told me that the travel steamers don't work well and that the girls who tried it have ended up having to iron their gowns. Yikes! She said the big ones that they use in the retail stores are much better and there is no way I'm lugging one of those over there or going to buy one. I think I'm just gonna get it professionally done and give myself a peace of mind...

I'm going to talk to my alterations person about it, and the WC, and go with whatever they say is best.  I'm taking the view that if the difference is like $30 - I want to go with what's most likely to work and be best for the dress the first time.
