Dress rethinking

Okay.. So I got my dress super cheap at the running of the bride. My BM just sent me the photos of me in them. I'm not too crazy about the style or the way it looks on me. It's way formal and not the cut I think looks best on me. Mind you it's 2 sizes too big. I am actually switching directions and thinking about getting a different dress:What do you ladies think? I just don't feel right in the first dress and the second dress is more my type. B

I think your dress should reflect your style.  If all-over beading isn't your style, then you should get a different dress.  Maybe just go try some on?  Esp. if you still have money in your budget for a dress, it might not hurt to try a few different styles, just to confirm that what you like on you is what you like on paper - b/c that often makes a big difference.

I really do like your first dress.  I think it's just gorgeous and once the alterations are made, it wil be more flattering than you think the cut is now.  Even though it's more formal than the second dress, I say you're allowed to go that direction (if that was what you truly want).  I've been to a lot of weddings and the guests don't normally say to themselves "that dress is too formal for this wedding" hehehe.  I am a two-dress bride, but instead of going more simple, I wanted more "wow".  I too was sold on my first dress because of the price.  And perhaps you can be happy knowing your gown was quite the steal for a more intricate dress.  Do what you feel is right for your special day.

I think that the first dress looks gorgeous on you, and will look even better once it is altered to your size.  I also don't think it looks too formal.  Most bridal gowns (that aren't completely over the top or super duper casual) have a way of fitting into whatever formality the wedding is depending on the decor and accessories and the bride's smile! That being said... you don't seem attached to the dress at all.  Since you got a deal on it, go ahead and try on some more dresses and see if there is one that makes you feel more like YOU.  The important thing is for you to feel comfortable and beautiful.  Let us know what you decide!

I also love the first dress - it's a great style for your body type. The back is totally va-va-voom! I wasn't keen on my dress before I had it properly fitted either, but once it actually fit me it looked amazing. So, I'd consider getting that done first before you start shopping around for something new.

Thanks ladies.. The vision of my dress looked like the second one. btw.. the second one is only $300 and that's what I intended to spend on my wedding dress, not that $700 isn't a steal.. but I guess my point is.. price isn't the problem here.Halter tops look the best on me and I am extremely self conscience about my arms (I swam for 8 years and I can't seem to get them where I want them to be). I saw the pictures last night and HATED the way I looked.I will try on the dress next week and we'll see how I feel. I think I just might feel better in the lighter dress honestly. Not just the way I look but just comfortwise. (I'm jeans and hoodie kinda girl) Anyway.. sorry so long! Thanks for your opinions!

Ohhh... I love the first dress but only because that one is similar to my own dress and more my style. It's really what YOU want. I went through the same experience you are going through. Picked a dress because of the price and also because I like it, but never loved it. I looked and looked at other dresses after and I think that only increased my symptoms of dress despair. However, when my actual dress came in, in a size that was fit for me I fell in love with it, much more so than the first time I put it on. Now I can't wait to wear it and am sad that it's only appropriate for one day. Do you think that you'd like your dress more if it was the right size, therefor showing a more accurate depiction of what it really looks like? Size makes such a big difference. I personally think it is stunning and not too fancy at all. If anything perhaps you'll find something else you feel more comfortable ina nd can make a few bucks by selling it since you got such a good deal.

i know how you feel...i tried on my dress and had my mom takes some pics.  when i saw the pics later, i just didn't have that warm, fuzzy feeling.  i've been debating shopping around for another dress too.  i think it is important to feel pretty/good in your dress.  on the other hand, i think once you get it altered, it will make a huge difference in how it looks on your body.  if you're still not into the overall feel of the dress, you can at least try on style 2 and see how you feel about it...

I love your first dress!  It will look fabulous once you have the alterations done.

Just do what makes you happy and comfortable!!! Coming from a bride who bought three, yes people THREE dresses before she finally found her mate (yeah, I have shopping issues!), I can attest that once its right you just feel calm. I never had that "crying I love my dress" moment they say you are supposed to have, but I just felt comfortable. That said the first one is gorgeous! I heart it! It fits your body amazing...and thats even two sizes to big! But I can see what you mean about being too fancy...they can take off the beading in alterations you know, then it would just look like a cool, sexy vintage lace dress!! The second one calls to be barefoot on the beach though :) Go with what just makes you smile...some brides never "fall in love" with their dress, I'm one of them, but if you smile, and are happy, go for it...if the dress was like $4,000 I would give different advice though, hahaha!

I agree with PP. You should feel gorgeous and happy in your dress. If you don't feel that way, it's okay to keep looking. I personally think the dress you have will be stunning once you get it tailored, but you are the person that matters.
