Hawaii

Kauai Hotels

FI and I finally decided on the destination of our honeymoon: Kauai! Thanks to all of you for your help in making this decision. It helped so much. We're thinking about vising the Big Island during our next visit to the isles. Have any of you stayed at or heard reviews about St. Regis Princeville, Grand Hyatt Kauai, or Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club? We can't decide! TIA!

I stayed at the Grand Hyatt and it was soooooo nice. The hotel itself and the hotel grounds are gorgeous and all the restaurants at the hotel are really good. I found the service to be great and I noticed many honeymooners there. Be sure to go to Roy's and Beach House which are nearby if you stay there. I guess you should also think about what area of Kauai you want to stay in. Its really easy to drive around the island to check out everything. If you want to be in Poipu definitely do the Hyatt but if you want the North Shore, then maybe the other hotels.

It really depends on what side of the island you would like to honeymoon on as I believe each hotel you mentioned is located in a different area.  The St. Regis Princeville i believe is the former Princeville Hotel.  I just stayed in Princeville in Febuary and it is beautiful, however it rains more in Princeville and it is a little more isolated.  However, we plan to honeymoon in Princeville at the Westin.  After a few days you get use to the commute...well at least i did...it was worth it for the beauty on that side of the island.  There is even a hidden waterfall that you drive by...oh sooo beautiful.  The Marriott is located in Lihue, this area is more central and it is near the airport.  I would drive past it to get to the South side where the Grand Hyatt is located i think. The south side is more touristy however this is where the diving is and it takes over an hour depending on traffic...traffic is worse then at home at times...lol.  If you don't mind driving and  don't mind some rain then Princeville is sooo worth it...if you want to relax at the beach all day and bask in the sun then the south side may be more your thing.  HTH! J. :-)

To clarify - it takes over an hour from Princeville to the South Side. J. :-)

Just one more thing - I also stayed in Princeville a couple of years ago and it's beautiful too. It is what made us fall in love with Hawaii in the first place! Nearby Hanalei is a really cute town and you are close to great beaches and restaurants. I'm sure this isn't making your decision any easier (hahaha), but personally I think I would still do Hyatt since its your honeymoon and definitely make sure you go up to Princeville/North Shore while you are there to check it out. maui2011- i LOVE that hidden waterfall . . . it made me so happy everytime i drove past it! :)
