DIY invitations...help!

I love how everyone's DIY invites came out so I keep thinking maybe I can do it too. I just feel so incompetent with graphics and cutting.  How did you all do it?? I bought the sample from cards and pockets, so I now know which colors to go with...but do they have templates to help with printing? And as far as designs on the invites, did you buy your clip art from weddingdna? or did you simply use a rubber stamp to add the cute flourishes/florals? any tips would be great! tia!!

I did a Google images search for different terms - beach, palm, island, stuff like that. I also downloaded GIMP, which is an image manipulation program. I opened the graphics in GIMP, and just experimented with it for a few days. I learned to use the program as I experimented. I also downloaded a bunch of fonts from dafont.com for free, and tried out different ones on the graphics that I created. Another option for you, if you decide not to make your own graphic, is to hire an etsy seller to just make a design for you that you'll get as a .jpg file. It's still much less expensive than paying for someone to print and make the invites for you.

I ordered all of the paper stuff from Cards and Pockets and then had the invitations designed by Notably Noted. I found a really expensive invite on Prim & Pixie and Notably Noted re-created it exactly for much, much less! www.notablynoted.com. They can work with you to design anything, I highly recommend them! So now I'm just using the design they created and printing everything on my own using the Cards and Pockets pieces. I can't wait to see how they turn out.

Yup, it can be daunting at first.  Take a look at some invitations online to get an idea of what style you like.  I looked on the cardsandpockets website, etsy, and a bunch of invitation/stationary sites.  I downloaded fonts from dafont -- I really like Scriptina and Blackjack.  For clipart, I kind of cheated...I took a rubberstamp design and created a digital stamp of the image in photoshop.  That allowed me to change the size, opacity, and color of the design.  I used photoshop for my design and I just kept playing around with it until I got a design I was happy with.  Good luck!

I bought all my paper and pocketfolds from cards and pockets also. I looked around for invites that I liked and then I designed my own. I used Microsoft Publisher to design my invites and my RSVP postcard, additional information card and a map. You can download a 60 day free trial of Microsoft Publisher at microsoft.com. Also if you want to use flourishes on your invite check out this link. http://www.projectwedding.com/wiki/show/flourishes
