Wedding Dress Transport Ideas!!

I just picked up my dress last week, from the shop that I ordered it from. I need ideas on the best way to trasport it to Hawaii. I starting googling and then thought to myself why not just ask the knotties they will know!! So here I am asking away, please keep in mind I am also traveling with then a 4 year old so the easier the better :) I will take all suggestions and would like to know what you all have done! Thank You!!!

I just brought mine on the plane...but I cannot imagine doing it with a 4 year old ;) Do you have someone flying with you? If so, you can tag team and just bring a purse and put your dress over your arm (don't bother with a carry on). It will wrinkle a bit, but steaming does wonders! Or you could Fed-Ex it...I think some brides on here have done that but I was too nervous :)

I plan to bring mine on the plane with me and hopefully they will hang it in the first class closet. But I agree it will be easier if you are traveling with someone else to help you out since you have a 4 yr old. I think that Leah FedEx'd her dress in July and she said it was simple. I don't know what kind of dress you have, but you could put it in your luggage also - but I am too scared about lost luggage to do that!

I'm going to carry my dress on as well! I don't want it to get lost in luggage or in the mail!

When you brought it on the plane what type of bags did you use?

I just carried mine in the  cloth garment bag the shop provided me.

i did carry on as well.  the flight attendents took it from me right away and hung it in the first class closet for me.  they also had it hanging right in to front when we landed so i wouldn't forget it.  i don't think i could sleep if i fed exed it.  i agree with kelsey... steaming does wonders so don't worry about the wrinkles!

I sent mine directly to Keepsakes in Oahu, she emailed me immediately when she received it.  I ended up sending it through USPS 1-2 day, as it was $100 less than UPS or Fed-Ex. I had too much other stuff to carry on and didn't want to have to worry about lugging it through airports (we were flying from Florida and had layovers and plane changes).

My response on this last nigth was deleted, so I'll try it again.

All recommendations that I've seen on this say to carry it on in the garment bag it came with.  If the airline won't store it in the closet, you can just lay it over some luggage in the overhead compartment.  I have a friend who did this, and it worked just fine.

If you don't have a garment bag, you can buy one on ebay for about $10.  Don't pay more for one from a dress shop - it's a ripoff.  I'm going to double-bag mine, so I bought one on ebay and it's exactly the same as the one the dress came with.

I just did it this weekend.  The airlines said that I couldn't hang it in the first class hanging section and that I would have to put it in the overhead.  We just made sure that we boarded early so that we could put the dress directly above us, and could moniter people trying to use the overhead space.  All in all, it worked out perfectly!!  And I will be honest, I wasn't very happy with what they originally told me I could do, but it was totally fine!!

I'm going to carry on my gown. I just don't want the hassle of lugging a large gown bag; especially since we're staying in LAX for a few days before heading to OGG.  I'm considering buying a tri-fold garment bag (gown length) that folds up and meets the carry on guidelines. I was on a different site (I think weddingbee.com) and a lot of brides were talking about them.  Check out Wally bags on Luggage.com

i shipped mine by UPS. It was way  easier than trying to carry it through one of the buiset airports in the world and especially when traveling with my  nephew that has autism. Just make sure there is someone on the other end that can sign for it when it arrives. Most hotels will do this for a fee.
