NWR: I had to refer a student to Child Protective Services. =(

In class, during a presentation, she mentioned "this poem reminds me of when my parents used to beat me with anything they had around"... the whole class gasped, the bell rang and she fled.

And I had a parent-teacher with her mother on Thursday night. I feel so sick to my stomach.

That sounds awful!  Hopefully she'll be alright.

Alyson - I'm really sorry you're in that position.  Just remember that it's people like you who are the eyes and ears of a community.  Without you, they'd be even more vulnerable.  I hope that child is given a safe place to stay, and her family has a successful intervention.

You have given this kid new hope and new life that she may never have known without help from someone like you.  It's a horrible thing for this child and you have just made a difference for her.

Wow, that is pretty serious.  Please keep us posted--I will be thinking of her and wondering what is going to happen to her.  That must have been very difficult for you to handle.

i agree with PP that it must have been hard to hear, but that you will have made a difference! I hope that child protective services can take care of the situation quickly and in a way thats best for the child.

that's aweful! I wish we didn't have a reason to have organizations like protective services.  No child should have to endure that pain.  You did the right thing.  I'm sure she'll remember you as the one person that reached out because you cared.
