Are you going the condo or hotel route?

I guess the question applies mostly to the DW people... My family has always done the condo thing - even when we've gone to Europe, we always rent an apartment in a major city and branch out from there... but I'm beginning to wonder if I'm missing out on something by not staying at a resort on the islands. What can the hotels give me that the condos don't?

We're totally condo people.  I think the only way we'd consider hotels is if condos were just not available or if we were offered a hotel stay for free.  Maybe.  ;)

We just like the freedom and flexibility you have with condos.  You can bbq your dinner while doing your laundry.  And usually for less.  Who doesn't love that?

I love hotels and the "romance" that seems to come with them but the thought of having a kitchen appealed to me which is why we chose the Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas. It is sort of the best of both worlds - ammenities of a nice hotel with kitchenette and laundry machines in the unit!

I agree, there is some romance or at least care-free vibe with hotels.  The restaurant/bar on-site is nice, on-site spa, turn-down service, room-service, daily maid...don't forget the little shampoos :)

I think of Resorts as a relax/carefree site.  Condos are a base for exploration.  So, our younger "explorers" are all staying at condos, and others who can afford it are staying at the Kea Lani.

My family is actually renting two beach houses in Ewa Beach.  Since we already have kids, and they are always bothering us to go to the beach this was a no brainer.  I have stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Maui, and I absolutely loved however I didn't pay for any of those trips.  Earned those trips through work.  Since we're footing the bill, the beach house was our best bet. One of the beach houses will cost approx. $1750 for 10 nights, and sleeps 5 people. The cost and vicinity to the beach were our two main reasons for going with the beach house.

    All great thoughts!

Confession: the ONLY two reasons I'm considering spending time in a hotel on our next trip are the spa and the pool. Ever since I was a kid, I've always judged places by their swimming pools. Looking at Andrea's facebook pics makes me really want to go in the pool at her resort!

We usually do the hotel but we chose a condo on Kauai where we still have privelages at the beautiful resort right next door. Having our cak and eating it too!
