Is it just me, or...?

are there a lot of new faces on the board? Welcome everyone! If you haven't had a chance to yet, tell us about yourselves and how your wedding planning is going! :) I know this board may not be as busy as some other boards, but it's one of my favorites because everyone on here is so nice and super helpful.

Hi there, I'm a newbie!  I've made a couple posts here and there, and an intro thread a few weeks back (still wasn't engaged then!), but I'll make another one here! My name is Brandy and I live in Blacklick.  My FI's name is Derek.  We're getting married next May (either the 15th or the 22nd). I *think* I may have found my dress already (and maybe the bridesmaids dresses), and the frustration of trying to find a pretty but affordable venue for the reception got to me so I decided we're going to do a tent wedding on my family's farm!  My brother will be kind enough to roast a pig for me, and my family and I will take care of the rest of the food. That's about as far as I've gotten, other than the fact that I think I want a cake from Merry Cakes.  Has anyone used them?  If so, feel free to share your experience because I'm not set in stone.

Hi ladies (and gentlemen too..if there is any out there)! I am new as well. My name is Shannon and my fiance's name is Shannon also. I know, I know. How odd? But it works for us. We got engaged on Feb. 18th (our 3 yr anniversary). We plan to get married on Sept. 18 2010. I am a little overwhelmed at the planning process. I always wanted to be a wedding planner but I am having trouble getting into the "groove" of planning my own wedding. I've never been that girl who dreamt of her wedding all the time. I am trying to nail down a dress and a venue. Not having much luck in either department. I am so glad that I decided to look on here. It has been so helpful knowing that I am not alone in trying to figure out what makes that day " the most perfect day". I almost feel like reading and responding to the post's with other brides is like wedding planning therapy. Just way cheeper than anything else we need for the wedding! I am sure I will be talking to you all soon. Thanks for being so nice and welcoming!

Welcome blynn and schap! Congrats on your engagements! Blynn -- the tent wedding sounds fabulous, and the pig roast sounds too cool! :) As far as cakes go, I've never heard of Merry Cakes, but you might have noticed a TON of girls raving about Anita Kline. I've booked her and she's fabulous -- really truly the sweetest lady ever and has the best prices around. Please check her out -- you don't be disappointed! Her contact info is below somewhere. If her cakes aren't you style, check out Kristin Thompson at La Bella Torta -- the BEST european buttercream ever! Her prices are great as well. :D Schap -- I know the feeling. I feel like being a wedding planner would be fun too, and I love doing it, but when it comes to my own wedding, I get so frustrated. It's usually a money issue for us, but I know the feeling. I've never been a "wedding dreamer" either. The girls here should be super helpful with that though! As for your dress, have you tried stores in the area and if no luck there, have you heard of Bridal and Formal in Cincinnati? Over 4000 dresses in all price ranges with pretty knowledgeable consultants to help you along the way too. I definitely suggest taking a look. They'll match prices too! :) HTH at least a little and best of luck planning!!! :)

Alko - I actually have heard people mention Anita Kline several times, but I was never able to find a website for her (so I'm guessing she doesn't have one).  What types of cakes does she do?  I'm really liking the rolled fondant style (I will probably want some type of stripes or polka dots or something).....and I know some bakers prefer not to work with that. Thanks!!

Hi everyone! I am not necessarily new to The Knot and I've been lurking and reading the board for awhile, not exactly posting until recently because we are further into planning and after all the weddings we've been to the last 5 years, I actually have something worthwhile to contribute. My name is Alexandra and my fiance's name is Joshua. We met back in high school (didn't go to the same one but met through mutual fiends) and have been together for 6 years. We've been engaged for some time now, but didn't set the date until last year when we knew we were at a good point in our lives to do so. We are getting married May 8, 2010. We are having the ceremony at St. Charles (he's an alum), the reception is at Creekside, and we are using Kimberly Potterf for our photographer. After trying on over 100 dresses (I have a fashion background, so I was super picky), I found my dress at Wendy's Bridal and picked it up last week! That's about all the planning we've done so far. Hopefully I can be of some contribution and should I have any questions, I'll be sure to ask!

Hello fellow Columbus knotties!  My name is Stacye and my husbands name is Trevor.  We were actually married on May 23, 2009.  I continue lurking and occassionally posting because I have slight wedding withdrawal.  Our wedding was great!  We were married at Resurrection Power of Church and Christ in Gahanna and our reception was at Mentel Memorial Golf Course (off of Georgesville Rd). I know that sounds like a super long drive in between for a wedding, and it sort of was, but after we booked the church and reception venues, the church moved locations.  Well anyhow, My mom  did DIY bouquets and centerpieces that turned out great.  Our corsages and bouts were done by Flowers on High (Jill Stember), she is a very close family friend.  She would have done all of our flowers, but I wanted my mom to feel like she could help with some big things since she couldn't contribute financially. My dress was Mori Lee 2320 from Perfect Weddings in Lancaster.  I had a great time there, our BM dresses were from there as well.  Photography was Jim Schwarz (he has a studio in Canal Winchester).  Anyhow, I've been through the whole wedding thing so if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.  We had a great day on a very strict wedding budget.  We set a budget and stuck to it and didn't feel like we had to cut any corners.  Our goal was to have a lavish honeymoon with the money we saved on the wedding, and we did just that.  Cruise to the Bahamas, 3 day shopping spree in Orlando, and a week staying in a nice hotel in Clearwater, FL.  Good Luck to everyone!

blynn -- I'm positive Anita can do just about anything you want -- I'd just email her and see. She's got albums for you to look through, and I'm pretty sure some of the other brides used rolled fondant in some of those pictures. Knottie Kerr's cake might actually be made from fondant, but I'm not sure. From what I've heard though from some of my friends, fondant looks great but tastes gross? Idk because I've never had it. If you're set on it, I'd definitely find someone that makes good tasting fondant! My brother was at a wedding recently and he said he saw all the guests (including himself) just peeling all all the fondant because it tasted so bad. Kristin from La Bella Torta doesn't use fondant because she believes the buttercream she uses can be made to look just as smooth, and she of all people can do it! Check her website out for proof if you want to see. :) green -- welcome and congrats on everything. Seems like you've got a pretty good handle on things! I tried on what had to be over 100 dresses too, and finally found the one at B&F. I never really had that "the one"moment, though. I just got tired of looking for the moment and just went with one both my family and I loved. :) Good luck! I'm a May 2010 bride too!

Stackeye - I didn't realize many people went from Columbus down to Lancaster to Perfect Weddings.  The owners of that store are relatives of mine (distant relatives....Ellen is my grandfather's cousin).  Weird!!

lol Stackeye -- my FI just asked me the other day what I was going to do with all my time after the wedding. He's sure I'm going to go through withdrawal. :P I'm in between working and school right now, so I've got plenty of time on my hands to just "knot" all the time. It's becoming quite the addiction!

Blynn - That's funny.  I actually only heard of the place because my SIL bought her dress from there.  She lives in Canal Winchester so Lancaster really isn't that far for her.  I liked that it didn't feel like a big business and you didn't feel pressured to make decisions on the spot.  I went to DB and WB but I just felt really awkward like I didn't belong there.  I dont know.  I hate shopping.  lol.  Alko - I spent so much time doing DIY money saving projects that every moment outside of work was basically dedicated to some sort of project, or research for the wedding.  I would research something for like a month before I would purchase it.  So now that the wedding is THANKFULLY over with, I get bored.  I've stopped knotting at home though (step one of my 12 step program I think).  LOL - we'll see, maybe by our first anniversary I'll be over it.  I mostly just enjoy lurking at the P&E and Snarky drama.

Hi ladies, I've been posting, but I don't know if I've ever properly introduced myself.  My name is Lisa and my fiance is Tim.  We got engaged at the end of March down in Athens, Ohio on College Green (we're both OU alums, but didn't meet until after graduating).  We're getting married June 19, 2010 with the ceremony at Broad St. Presbyterian Church and the reception at Walter Commons at St. Charles.  Photographer is Kimberly Potterf, Dress is from Gabrielle's European Bridal, and BM dresses I found at Nordstrom for $98!  My parents have been super helpful in planning, and we actually had all of our major vendors pinned down as of the end of June.  The only things left to do are invitations, DIY programs, menus, place cards, etc.  Thanks to everyone for all the help in planning.  I've found this board to be so nice and supportive.

Hello everyone. I'm fairly new to the boards, made a few recent post. My name is Martina and my fiance is Joe. We got engaged at sunset on the beach *perfect* in June and ever since i have been trying to research. I've been very frustrated through the process, but am hoping the rough stuff is behind us. We are on a budget and also trying to be as eco friendly as possible. I'm doing a lot of things myself (the artist in me can't help it), so if anyone has some great DIY projects I would love to hear them! Thanks everyone for the great suggestions and ideas given already.

Blynn... Anita can do anything, but she has a special talent for making buttercream look exactly like fondant, but taste AMAZING! My cake looked like fondant but it was actually buttercream and it was incredible. Give her a call or an email! And welcome to all!

Hi Guys! I have posted a few questions and you all were so quick and eager to respond and were very helpful! Now that the dust has settled a little bit I'll introduce myself. My name is Brittany and my FI's name is Bobby. I grew up in Columbus and he grew up in St. Louis. We met at Miami University Freshman Orientation, started dating a few years later and the rest is history! I am still living in Columbus and he is living in Nashville so I have been sending a lot of pictures and videos of ideas and planning stuff. We are going to have the ceremony and reception at the Renaissance some time next summer (most likely July 24th - he is just paranoid about it being hot outside). Unfortunately the Renaissance combined with the number of guests our families want means cutting the budget in almost every other category :( That's a big area where you guys will come in! I have already lurked and read some amazing tips and tricks. That's pretty much all I've decided so far. I'll be sure to keep you all posted and cannot wait to help give my own input down the road.

Hello! Thanks to everyone to responding to my post a few days ago. My name is Vanessa and I'm getting married June 12, 2010. I went to Ohio State (which is where I met my fiance) and we moved to North Carolina (he's currently in med school there). The ceremony is at St. Joseph's Cathedral and the reception is at Jefferson Country Club. I will probably have many more post on here up until my wedding day. There isn't many people I can run ideas by that have a clue what I'm talking about. I currently picked a photographer (Julian Allen) and videographer (Prodigy) but there is still much planning to do. Please let me know if you guys have any advice/comments about my photographer and videographer. I'm really excited to get to know you guys better!!!

Lo – congrats on getting all the major vendors pinned down – now you can focus on the fun stuff! Oh yeah, and your color scheme is awesome, btw. ;) Iceprincess – I’m really crappy at DIY, but I’m planning on doing our own invites, a personalized aisle runner, submerged orchid centerpieces, and our own cardbox (thanks to FI). Most of this is with the help of my creative sister, future SIL, and FMIL. The DIY board is SUPER helpful for ideas and projects, and a lot of the girls on this board are great at DIY too! Their bios are awesome. :) Blynn – I just got an email late tonight from Anita and she told me she had been busy with a lot of meetings the last couple of days, so I’m sure she’ll get back to you soon! If not by voicemail, try email! She seems to check it daily. Bstegma – Go Redhawks!!! :D FI and I are college sweethearts from MU too! What year did you graduate? Butterfly – I don’t know much about your photographer or videographer, sorry, but I do just want to say welcome. :) This board is a lifesaver for me. I hope other brides see this thread and can contribute more. I didn't want to leave any of you in the dust after starting this thread. :) Good luck!!!

Hey everyone!! I've posted on here a few times throughout the past few months, but have never formally indroduced myself! My name is Heather and my fiance is Kyle. We are getting married at First Congregational Church on Broad St on June 12, 2010, and will be hosting our reception at N. Bank Park Pavilion. I am super excited about both of these venues, especially N. Bank since it was a lot of work trying to win the "lottery." I've been pretty busy with the major vendors lately, and so far we have booked Boardwalk Catering, Rockettree Photography out of Cincinnati, I've ordered my dress from Bridal and Formal, and have a meeting with the DJ this coming Sunday! One thing I am kind of bummed about is the cake. I have always been facsinated by wedding cakes, and am a total junkie when it comes to cake shows on TV. :)However, with the recommendations on the board, Anita Kline, and La Bella Torta are booked for my date. I have started looking into the Cake Studio but they seem to be kind of high. Any advice here would be awesome!Anyways, just wanted to say Hi, and thank everyone for their help thus far! You've guys have been great!

Alko- thanks--your color scheme is going to be beautiful as well! ha!Drake- Good to see you on here again!  What a coincidence that two knotties sat next to each other on a plane!  Yes, Heather and I saw each other were engaged and reading bridal magazines on a plane to Chicago in June and started talking about our love for the Columbus knot board.  As far as other cake vendors, my FMIL is getting a cake for the rehearsal dinner from Jan Kish of La Petite Fleur.  She was out of our budget for the wedding, but I've heard a lot of good things about her.  If you're willing to spend more, you might want to check her out.  She can do the fancy, artistic cake styles.

Oops forgot...Butterfly - Prodigy Video was a top choice for us but they were already booked for our date.  My FMIL does photography and videography on the side and was VERY impressed with them (she's paying for the videographer).  She thought their sound quality was the best she'd seen.  She also knows friends that have used them for a son's wedding and were happy. I think you made a good choice.

Hi everyone!  My name is Brittney and my fiance's name is Nick.  We both met each other at Ohio Northern University and we're planning our wedding from Dayton.  We got engaged in Feb and getting married April 17, 2010.  Our wedding is at Bexley United Methodist Church and the reception is at OSU Golf Club.  I have yet to hear if anyone has been to a wedding at the OSUGC, but I absolutely love the venue.  We've booked CenterStage Productions as a DJ and Jacobus Photography.  The plan is to book Lady Di Cakes for the cake - she has this Strawberry Amaretto cake that is to die for!  She'll be at the Bridal show this weekend if you're interested!  Anyways, now it's just getting the final touches - we're getting a little frustrated on transportation for the bridal party to the church and the reception.  Obviously, there is a budget.  I'm sure I'll be posting something soon - we're getting married during prime prom season!Thank you for all that you guys do - everything on here is so helpful!

Hi everyone.  My name is Becky and my fiance's name is Andrew.  We met in college, at a small little engineering school in Terre Haute, IN.  I am from Columbus and he is from the Pittsburgh area, but we have lots of friends in Indiana from school, so we decided that Columbus was the most centrally located place to have the wedding! We got engaged about a month ago, and so we haven't even set a date.  It will probably be early November 2010.  I had posted a while ago asking for unique/rustic/affordable reception locations, and I'm still looking into the suggestions that were given!  I'll let you know what I decide.

Hey all! I've been sort of lurking/randomly posting for a few months now, but have never formally introduced myself. My name is Gina and my fiance and I met in the 9th grade. We were best friends through high school, grew apart once we left for college (he went to OSU, I stayed in Cincinnati) and reconnected at our 10 yr HS reunion. I was living in NYC at the time and we started doing the long distance thing and I finally decided to move to C-bus back in May and we got engaged a month later! Our wedding is on September 5, 2010. So far, with the help and advice from all of you guys, we've booked The Vault for our reception, Boardwalk Catering for our caterer, Park of Roses for our ceremony, Sean Dean Photography for our, well, photographer :) and have meetings for DJ and cake person over the next week. I feel great about where we are planning-wise and want to thank all of you for your advice thus far! You ladies have been so, so helpful!! gina ;)

Hello everyone!  My name is Brianne and I'm new to the boards.  I just got engaged a few weeks ago to my fiance Jeff.  We currently live in Richmond but are both from Columbus so we will be holding our wedding in Columbus on November 6, 2010.  We are having both the ceremony and reception at Tall Timbers.  For anyone trying to stay within a tight budget, I would check them out, they are very reasonable.  We have picked our colors (scarlet and grey-he's an OSU graduate and we're both huge football fans) and the venue is taking care of all the food so now I just need to work on some of the other big things such as the cake, my gown, etc.  But I'm looking into some of your great suggestions and just wanted to say I find you all so helpful so thanks!
