Flowers???

So what is everyone doing for flowers in the dead of winter? Trying to keep the price down. My bouquet will be real but the flowers on the food table and another table or two may not be. Still deciding.

Re: Flowers???

  • I also considering about flowers. real needs really a huge budget but ...I just don't know I don't want it to be not real.
  • I faced the same problem as you guys, decided to do real flowers for all bouquets and bouts using hydrangea, roses and stephanotis - but for centerpieces I didn't want to spend a ton on flowers that are just going to die, plus it was even more for vases, those glass thingys that go in the vase, etc. etc. so I ordered some candelabras off of Ebay :)
  • Most of our flowers were hydrangeas, peonies, ranunculus, dendrobium orchids, and stock.  Our florist was great with us and gave us lost of suggestions to help keep costs down.  We only met with two but we knew she was the right person for our wedding because she was so helpful and enthusiastic about everything and it made us feel so much better (I was so lost on what to do when we went in for our appointment).
  • I'm doing roses (my theme is pearls and roses) and doing all real, but saving money by buying bulk craft pearls & floral wire & making DIY pearl bouquets for my bridesmaids. Good luck! :)
  • Our florist told us there are tons of options in the winter (whoever she uses as a supplier has a good selection). I'm also lucky enough to not care too much about flowers: in my opinion, there are no ugly flowers!

Another cool thing I've seen is the use of succulents in arrangements, and those are available year-round I think. Fruit is another option. And there are always greens!

The only thing I'm putting my foot down on is "Christmas-y" centerpieces/bouquets. Just because it's winter doesn't mean I want holly and evergreeen!

  • I am doing roses (available year round for pretty much the same price) from Costco. You can get like, 100 bulk roses for something like $80, and then I will put it together myself.  So all the bouquets and corsages and such can be real, but my centerpieces are not flowers.  I also didn't want fake flowers but couldn't splurge on lots of arrangements.
  • I love flowers but we're paying for the wedding ourselves.  I'm considering alternate options for bouquets and centerpieces.  Not sure what yet.  Maybe only flowers's we'll have is my bouquet.  Seems crazy to pay alot for bouquets for a 1/2 ceremony and cheesy pictures.  I'd rather use $$ for food, alcohol, etc.  But I do love flowers so it's hard.
  • I did silk flowers in hydrangeas, ranunculus and peonies.  They were absolutely beautiful and I didn't have to worry about anything.  Check out https://www.etsy.com/your/shops/lovetheblooms.
