Dress anxiety - How many fittings?

Hey ladies!  As I mentioned in a earlier post, I'm nervous that my dress still isn't in for our September wedding.  I talked to the dress shop & the designer still has it listed to arrive in their warehouse on July 22nd, & then it will be shipped to the dress shop.  This means, I probably won't be able to start fittings until August!  The dress shop is in Little Falls, so it's not like it's a "just run there after work", type of deal.

I'm worried about how close it will be to the wedding, when I finally get my dress.  I know it varies for everyone, but how many fittings did you have/do you plan on having?  I guess I'm just trying to find out what the norm is.  TIA ladies!  = )

My dress fit pretty well as it has a corset back, and didn't need too many alterations. Because of that, I had 1 fitting in June, and will go back at the end of August just to make sure everything is still good to go.  I think it will really depend on the dress, but if I were you, I would schedule at least 2 just to be safe.

My dress already fits perfectly besides being too long, but I'm thinking about losing some weight so that may very well change. My mom said she'd happily buy me a new dress if my current dress couldn't be altered down enough :-P

I wouldn't think you'd need more than 2 fittings depending on how well it fits in the first place and if you plan on losing more weight.

I'm having two fittings. I live out in the DC area and my dress is all the way in MN. My fittings were at 2 months out and 1 month out. Hope this is helpful!

2 fittings also...used a family friend who has a busy summer, so had "final" fitting in May, will try my dress on again this weekend to make sure all still fits, but I'm not expecting to have any need for last minute alterations.

I had two fittings. It needed to be taken in and the hemline shortened as well as the bustle. The first fitting I did about 2 months out and the 2nd fitting I did the week before the wedding. They taught us the bustle steps. At the 2nd fitting they needed to take out the inside lining near my hips just a little bit. When i went back to pick up the dress two days before we just walked through the care instructions. It went really smoothly. I'm sure you'll be ok with it coming in at the beginning of August.

I had 3. The first was just to see what needed to be done (that was 3 months out). She took out the bust by the 2nd (2 months out) and I realized then that I wanted to have cups put in. During the second fitting she measured where the hem would be taken up to. The 3rd time was 1.5 weeks until the wedding, had it not been a holiday weekend she would have met me the week of the wedding too.

    I had ..
    1. The bust taken out
    2. Cups sewn in
    3. Hem
    4. Bustle (12 pts)
    5. Elastic belt put in to help keep the dress up.

I've had 2 and have another one sheduled for mid August.  I may try to fit another in before I pick up the dress.  The seamstress took it in a lot and added a sweetheart neckline, did a hem and bustle.

Remember your fitting will depend on how much it needs to be altered.  I've lost 25lbs and would love to lose another 15lbs so I'm having a few more fittings.  If you're not planning on gaining or losing weight you shouldn't need too many.  But it will also depend on your seamstress and how she works.

I have a somewhat similar issue. I already have my dress, but I won't be in Minnesota until August 18 for my September 10 wedding. I spoke with a seamstress about the timeline, and she said as long as I make the appointments ahead of time and plan on coming in several times within that time period, it should be fine.

I would just talk to whoever is doing your alterations about the timeline and see what they say. If they know about it ahead of time, it should be fine. HTH.

I think you'll be ok as long as it comes in when they told you. Go ahead and make some fitting apts though, talk to the seamstress and tell her your situation. If you let them know ahead of time they shouldn't have a problem working with you.
