July wedding at Palm House at FPC

I am considering having a wedding at the Palm House at FPC in July 2011, but am concerned that it will be too hot.  Has anyone been to/had a wedding there during that time?  Thoughts on a July 2nd date vs. an April 23rd date?  Also, any comments re. the pros/cons of the grand atrium vs. the palm house are much appreicated.  Thanks.

I was in a wedding once in the palm house. It was early August. It was MISERABLE!!!!!!!!  No one danced b/c we were all so sweaty and gross. I don't feel like it was exceptionally hot outside either, just normal August. The ceremony was also in there, and they had these HUGE fans going to try and cool things down, however, they were so loud you couldn't hear any of the ceremony. And I was up front since I was in the wedding and I didn't hear a word. :(
    I'd go for April!!! :)

I didn't have my wedding in the Palm House, but I visited several times during the planning process (we got married in the Garden Pavilion, which is no longer in use). I can attest to the fact that it is insufferable in the summer months. Yes, they have cooling fans, but they are loud and there is little they can do to significantly cut the heat and humidity in the room. You and your guests wiould be sweating in your formal wear, and, like PP mentioned, it would put a damper on the festivities. It is a beautiful space to be sure, and if you're set on using it then I would definitely go for April.

I was just there earlier this week for something NWR.  It was a beautiful day- not hot or humid, but the Palm House was already humid and there was nobody else in the room.  I can only imagine how it would be once it was filled with people and maybe even dancing.  But cmon its a greenhouse - its supposed to be that way.

Don't get me wrong, its a very unique place for a reception.  And its very pretty.  But unless you are getting married in the dead of winter, I think it will always be hot and humid.  Either April or July. . . . .

I am having my wedding in May 2011 in the Palm House (ceremony outside on the west terrace).  I had originally considered the Atrium also but once you see the Palm House they just don't compare (especially for the same price).  What I am hoping is that since my wedding is in the evening it will be cooling off and hopefully not too hot.  I personally believe there is not a more beautiful venue in Columbus.  The second my family, fiance and I walked into the Palm House we knew it was absolutely perfect.  If you are deciding July vs April, I would probably go with April to be safe.  I may be biased, but I think it's the perfect venue!

I was talking to them about getting married there.  They said they did not plant all the plants until mid-May.  This may affect your decision about the April date as the majority of the flowers and such will not be planted.  You may want to go before mid-May to see the site as it is without all the plantings before you decide on an April date.

You may want to think of doing maybe the ceremony in the palm house, then the reception outside on the west terrace.  If it's hot, it may be more bearable outside than in the palm house.

I actually like the atrium, mostly because I love the chiluly (spelled wrong) glass every where, and my FI and I love that.  The Atrium/Zen Garden are slightly cheaper (not too much) so that may sway you as well.
