Recommendations on where to buy a wedding dress

In a couple of weeks I am going wedding dress shopping with my Maid of Honor. Does have any suggestions of shops to go to in the Twin Cities area (specifically th south metro)? I've been to David's Bridal, but I'd like to check out some of the smaller shops in the area. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!Rachel

I bought my dress at Pearls and Lace in Burnsville which doesnt have a huge selection, but I found a lot of things I liked. I also really liked Heartstrings in Hopkins. I visited there like four times!

Weddings By Tess in Apple Valley, I've only been there for alterations but I liked the atmosphere and friendly employees. Plus great alterations!

I am getting my dress from Brides of France-there are two locations, one in Uptown and one on 50th and France.  Small stores, but great customer service!

The Wedding Shoppe on Grand is pretty popular, but if you go on a weekend, I recommend getting an appointment.

I got my dress at L'atelier Couture in St. Paul.  Check out their website for trunk shows and sample sales and you can get an amazing designer dress for a super low price (I got my $4k dress for $99!).  Plus, it's a gorgeous store, and the customer service is amazing.

I recently wandered into Raffine Bridal in Stillwater to try on veils, and LOVED their dress selection.

Mestad's!! They have a location in St. Cloud and one in Rochester. I recommend the Rochester location...they are great!

I found my dress at Bella's Bridal Boutique in Woodbury but ended up calling around for the best price and purchased the dress at the Wedding Shoppe in Saint Paul. I also liked the selection of BM dresses there and since I want to do it all at the same store (if I can) that was a big plus.

I purchased my dress just last week from Heartstrings in Hopkins.  They have a larger selection and it's a cute little place.  Never felt pressured into buying a dress.  Went back about 3-4 times to try the same dress on again.I also went to Wedding Shoppe & Flutter.  WS has a HUGE selection and has dresses hanging by price which I really really liked.  I did feel a little pressure here.  The lady helping us was great, but there was a dress she just loved on me and I felt like she was talking me into it. I did like it, but wasn't in love with it. Make an APPT! Flutter is a super cute little store in uptown, but only has a few dresses.  I fell in love with one of the dresses online and needed to try it on.  It was a great dress, but like another one better.  The customer service here was great!

kclepire - I felt some pressure at Wedding Shoppe too. I got really turned off by their photo policy as well. I see their point, but pics were important since my Mom lives overseas and I wanted to take pics for her input.

regina - now that I think about it I was bothered by their no photo policy as well.  Later at 2 stores I was down to a dress at each and the photos REALLY helped.  It made me realize which dress I look better in. Also, the WS is VERY busy.  There was always 2 other brides at the mirror with me where as at other stores I was normally the only one and could take time and focus on me vs focusing on the others.  The WS is a great store with a huge selection of dresses, but looking back I guess i liked my experience at other stores better.

I LOVED Napier Bridal in West St. Paul (north of 494 on Robert St).  It's small but worth the trip.  The service is excellent and the shop only has two appts at a time, so it's more personal.

Here are the spots I've gone so far:Bella Bridal Boutique, Woodbury: Good selection of dresses. My budget is around $1,000 and I found a few beautiful options here. The service was great and they let us wander around and "tag" dresses I wanted to try on.David's Bridal, Woodbury: Uggggghhhh. I hated the fitting rooms ... they have no mirrors and I had to just wait around on the "stage" in my underwear (in the middle of the store) while the girl went and grabbed dresses. Also, the material is just cheaper, as well as the construction. But for the price, it might be worth it. Not to me, though. :)Wedding Shoppe, Grand Ave, St. Paul: I loved, loved my experience here. I had my appointment on a late Monday afternoon and was given all the service and attention I could have desired from our person. She was amazing and SUCH a wonderful attendant. I also found dresses I'd found in magazines in this store, so that was a plus. This was my favorite spot.Hope that helps!
