Dance lessons

For those of you who did dance lessons, did you learn a "routine" or just learn how to dance?  If you learned a dance to a specific song, how much did you pay, if you don't mind sharing.  Was it worth it?FI and I are currently taking general dance classes offered through the community ed program.  They are pretty reasonably priced and we're learning all the basic dances (fox trot, waltz, swing, salsa, etc).  But FI is a little disappointed because he wanted to learn how a dance to our song (He actually did!  I don't even care about this!).I'm trying to see if it would be worthwhile to look into doing this on top of our current "lessons".  Thanks for your input!

Prior to our August wedding, we took lessons at Tropical Ballroom in Woodbury. They offer a Saturday morning group class where you learn the three most common wedding dances, and also have the opportunity to apply the steps to your own song/music. I believe the group class was something like $40 per person for two group lessons? I'm going from memory here, so could be wrong, but their pricing is online if you want to verify. In addition to the group classes, we did take one private lesson too (think that was $70 for a 50 min. lesson). We were really happy with Tricia and James at Tropical Ballroom - highly recommend them!http://www.tropicalballroom.com/

We took lessons at Dancers Studio in St. Paul (on Snelling just south of 94). Bonnie was our instructor, and I can't say enough good things about her (full review in bio). They offer both private lessons and group classes, so the price depends on which package you pick. If you get private lessons, then you can take any of the group classes they offer for free. We did several group classes for fun and to learn some partnering skills and four private lessons. The first two lessons we learned some different steps and the second two we put the steps to our song. We were extremely pleased with the results, and since we didn't tell any of our guests were taking lessons, they were really surprised. Plus, we treated the lessons like date nights. I know that Dancers Studio offers one free private lesson (only 30 minutes, but normally they're an hour) to see if you like it.
