We have a band, so this doesn't really apply, but this would be on my do not play list....
    Macarena (sp?)
    Chicken Dance
    Electric Slide
    YMCA
that save a horse, ride a cowboy song...or any country (sorry, not a fan)
    Greased Lightning

    :) that was fun

FI's and my musical tastes are pretty specific, so we're going to have a big list.

    Do not play:

Anything by The Eagles or any member therein
Anything by The Steve Miller Band or any member therein
    Country
Anything that's ever been on a Jock Jams CD
    Rap
"Band on the Run" by Wings (the song seems to chase us, and we hate it)
    Macarena
    Hokey Pokey
    Anything by Regina Spektor
Anything by Death Cab for Cutie (I can't stand them on so many levels)
    Anything with Natalie Merchant singing
    Pussy Control
    Funky Motherfucker
Anything by Alice In Chains (FI loves them but I can't stand Layne Staley's voice)

    Do play:

    "Hey Ya" by Outkast
    "99 Red Balloons"
    Anything by Journey
we're going to try to sneak some In Flames in there later on (we love Swedish melodic death metal)
"It's My Life" Gwen Stefani version
most '90s alternative like Belly, The Pixies, and other bands like them
Anything by Ella Fitzgerald, Sinatra, Bobby Darrin, Etta James... all the crooners
    Michael Buble
    Metallica
    Rush
lots of metal as long as it isn't too scary/sweary

Our cocktail hour is mostly going to be big band and crooner music.

Our ceremony is going to be all pop/rock music sung by Erin Schwab.

We get a lot of our ideas from the Music Choice channels on cable.  FI and I have a little game we play together when we "watch" it, and it makes us remember a lot of great songs we've forgotten about.

Ooh, I just remembered some more.

    Do play:

anything by Lady Gaga except "Love Game" since I don't want to hear "disco stick" at my wedding
    Lilly Allen
    Madonna
    Cher
    "1,2,3,4" by Feist
    Anything by Rise Against
    Chevelle
    Bon Jovi
"Movin' on Up" (Jefferson's theme song)

    Do not play:

anything even close to emo music
Staind (can't stand Aaron Lewis - wish he'd just get over whatever it is that makes him so whiny)
Limp Bizkit, although FI will probably enjoy hearing it
    absolutely no christian music

@Shan: "You and Me" by Dave Matthews is our first dance song. :) It's a must-play for us, too!

We had no do not plays and only had a couple do plays, You and Me by DMB and Better Together by JJ.

I honestly think our dance was better because we gave our DJ and guests freedom to play what they wanted. DJs are pros and know what gets the crowd dancing and what songs they won't dance to. I originally didn't want them to play YMCA or the Chicken Dance, but those two songs were the only ones that had practically everyone on the dance floor and everyone had fun dancing to them.

We have a band, so we didn't have to make as lengthy of a do-not-play list. Our must-play list is based on their playlist.

    Do Not Play
    "Lips of an Angel"
    "Mambo no. 5"
    "Hey Soul Sister"
    Anything by Creed

What about Crazy Bit** by Buck Cherry? It is on my......
Do NOT play list. I was shocked when my FI's cousin had it played at her wedding.
Our jaws were on the floor!

all very good suggestions!  Chx dance, ymca, etc will not be played at my wedding.  if they are, I am demanding my money back for the dj!  :)  I was very specific about that!  We really like old school rap, anything by jack johnson, damien rice, lily allen, incubus, ray lamontagne, eric hutchinson, etc.  i think it will be a good mix ( I just went over everything with my future hubby).  Thank you all for giving me your 2 cents!
