Cake Centerpieces?

Has anyone done cakes as the centerpiece on each table? If so, do you have any vendors you would recommend going with?

I would like to do this over having a large cake or cupcakes, and I am hoping that it keeps the cost lower than the other two options. Any thoughts would be great!

This sounds sooooooo cute!  I don't have any suggestions for where to go, but I think it will be really unique and pretty!

I am planning on doing this.  Plannning to get 10" cakes from Sam's Club, which run about $12/cake.  The only setback to doing Sam's is that our choices are pretty limited.....white or choc cake.   We did also look at PJ Murphy's (www.pjmurphysbakery.com)   I think their 8" cakes ran $18-22 and they have more variety and filling options.  *Plus, when you do a cake tasting with them, they give you a small (maybe 5") cake and additional cakes for $3.00

Thank you! I have heard great things about PJ Murphy's as well. I will definitely be looking into that.

If anyone else has suggestions, keep em coming! :)

We were considering this idea at one time as well and were leaning towards Cafe Latte cakes (tortes, cheescake, fruit cake, fudge cake, 3-layer cake, bundt cake) for the variety of cakes we could get and ALL are amazingly delicious.  Their turtle cake and chocolate flourless are to DIE for!  Each cake starts around $30 and serves 12-16. I guess I'm not sure if they deliver, though, so that would be worth looking into. Depending on how may tables you'll need them for, it can actually be equivalent to or less expensive than one large cake...AND you get to go around to each table and take a little sample of each :)
