Cake color

Does the color of the cake have to match the colors of the wedding? My mother keeps telling me that the cake needs to coordinate and even wanted me to match it to the BM dresses. I def don't want to do this now since the dresses are brown. Our other colors are cream, pink, and green, but I want the cake to look like wedgwood china (which I think would look best in blue). Do I need it to match? Will people think it's odd if it doesn't?

I don't think anyone would truly notice if the cake was a different color :-)

We are doing ours in plain white. -- I love color but for some reason I wanted an all white cake with lots of details and no Fondant that crap is nasty! Sorry no offense if you went with it I have no problem peeling it off. :)

I know I Want Cake was doing a cool mosaic cake but other than that I have see cake that is the main color or has accents of the color. I by no means think it is necessary.

ETA : I think if your cake has color it should fit in with your color scheme.

Chances are that no one will notice if it doesn't match, so make it any color you want!!  I think its common for the cake to match the wedding colors, but really it should just be whatever you like best :)

It doesn't have to match if you don't want it to.  Remember, you can always bring in some color with flowers, which you can guarantee will match the other flowers at your reception (if you're using flowers).

For mine, I figured that there will probably be no other point in my lifetime when I can spend a good chunk of money on a whackadoo cake and make people eat it, so why not now?

No one will notice.  Do what you want.  I think it sounds cute. :)

You can do whatever your heart desires with your wedding cake. Your cake can compliment your wedding colors, or it can be more of a statement piece that goes completely off the "theme". A lot of people do that sort of thing with a groom's cake at the wedding (theme it according to the groom's hobby, or school, etc).

I agree with PPs, go with whatever YOU want for you cake.  Just some food  for thought  (enjoy the pun).  Colored FROSTING does color people's mouths, so if you're planning to do blue frosting, be prepared for people to be walking around the reception with blue mouths.  :)

**Our colors are blue and silver, so we're doing white frosting, but using blue ribbon along the base of each tier and doing our monogram on a 2x2 square in the middle tier in blue fondant....when we first mentioned blue decorations on our cake to our vendor, she kindly reminded us of the blue mouth affect**

Ha ha, I'd forgotten about the blue mouths! I think we're probably going to end up trying to match the less common pink Wedgwood. Thanks all!
