So, I set myself on fire tonight

This gas stove is taking some getting used to.  Good thing FI was there to put me out!

Got gas or electric?

Oh no!  I've never had a gas stove, that sounds terrible!

    Don't do that :)
We have gas too and 1 burner never wants to light and I am always afraid I am going to blow myself up trying to light it.

That sounds so scary! I've never had gas, but I remember always being scared babysitting and having to use those.

Our old place had a gas stove. I enjoyed cooking on it, we made s'mores on it as well. I hope you didn't burn yourself too badly.

No burning, thank God!  Just a singed robe....I was leaning over and the tie got too close.  Smelled wonderful!

We have a tricky burner too - I'm also scared to try to light it.  I've seen the FI do it with a lighter - I just use another burner :).

    I felt silly, actually.

I love gas stoves! We've had a gas stove for a couple years. But they can be kind of touchy, especially the ones you need to light with a lighter.

I grew up with a gas stove and actually lit a dishtowel on fire with an electric oven when I was about 13! I took a pizza out of the oven using the dishtowel as an oven mit and it must have touched the element inside or something but next thing I knew I had a pizza in one hand and a Dishtowel o' Flames in the other and two kids screaming FIRE! FIRE!!

    yikes!  Glad you're okay.

We have a gas, and I was scared of it at first, too.  But, my grandma always had one and on days when the power would go out, she would put her hands on her hips and say, "Well, we don't electricity to bake oatmeal cookies, now do we?"  And she and I would whip up a big batch.  It made the power going out not so scary.

Scary! We had a gas stove in our old place and I had a hard time with it as there was no measurement for what was med, med high, etc...you just had to guess. I figured it out but I def prefer the electric one we have now even though I know tons of people that prefer gas (including Joe).

mmmm....Grandma Oatmeal cookies!  I would be looking for ways to make the power go out just to get some.

I've totally singed stuff on my electric stove - potholders and such, but there's usually warning smoke and smell first - not with gas - there's just "insta-robe-on-fire!"  Need to pay closer attention, apparently.

omg that is the most eye catching post title on here! I really dislike gas stoves, they freak me out!

I've been using a gas stove for about 5 years now, and I swear by it.  The burners heat more evenly, and I like being able to actually "see" how hot it's running.  I do prefer an electric oven, though, since gas ovens aren't always accurate with the temperature they say they are.  What I would love is a convection oven, but we don't have the space for it.  Maybe when we eventually buy a new house years down the road.
