a real prize?

I went to David's Bridal a few weeks ago and gave them contact info. Today I got a card in the mail saying that I won a "prize" through David's with a Mary Kay lady. Does anyone know if these "prizes" are real or did David's just sell my stats? TIA

I can't say I know 100% that they sell info, but here's what happened to me:
Right after they got my contact info I started to get a lot of (I mean a lot) calls about winning things like cruises and stuff and calls from numbers that didn't leave messages.  I don't give out my number unless it's for a very good reason (and it's a cell listed under someone else's name).  I guess when you fill out their forms, there's a section about them sharing your information that you need to opt out of.  What I think happened is that they share info with Men's Warehouse, and they are the ones who actually sell info.

I think I actually got one of those cards about a year ago, but I didn't follow up on it. I'd say if you do follow up on it, just be aware.

While I don't know anything about 'prizes' - I haven't been contacted about any of them....nor have I gotten any phone calls (or at least none left messages)  I know for sure that David's provides your information to many wedding related vendors.  They had my name spelled incorrectly - so I know that any mail that comes with my name incorrect was given to the vendor by David's.

Yeah no, it is not a real prize. But go if you want to try out their makeup!

They sold my info to a private makeup compnay as well - after I told them in no uncertain terms did I want my info shared since all I have is a cell phone on a family plan and didnt' want my number shared with people who just want to talk through thier script.  I was so pissed off that I swore I'd never willingly give them business again.  (if I am in a wedding that has dresses from there, I guess I'll deal but I won't voluntarily shop there)

OMG, I went with my best friend when she won a "makeover" for her and a friend with a Mary Kay lady after going to David's. It turned out to be a two-hour long sales pitch, and I had to be kind of rude to the lady because she didn't want to let us leave! She kept saying, "Oh, just check out one more thing...oh, but I have more to show you..." Not fun!

I had gotten free tickets to a wedding fair here in Chicago and then ended up not being able to go. No big deal, cuz it was free. Well after that, I have gotten SEVERAL calls and e-mails about similar types of "prizes" that I had won and from various vendors in Chicago, despite having not even step foot in the place.

    LAME!!

Any time I get any such e-mail I unsubscribe, and any time I get a call, I tell them I am not interested.

Thanks ladies. I am planning on calling David's and getting my name out of their records. So unprofessional. But then again, most of my experience with them was.

Wow - Yes, I get these calls & "prize" offers too!  I knew I'd get a lot of emails & mail & calls after the wedding fair... but some of these are simply Bizarro!!

I finally answered a call from an odd # after getting quite a few calls... the lady said I won a "chef-cooked dinner for two" at our house. And that I'd "win" a 3-night trip to the Dominican Republic just by keeping the dinner appt.
Couldn't clearly tell me the purpose of the prize or how they got my name or what the hook was.  Something to do with a honeymoon registry- slash - gourmet foods - slash - vacation packages.  She couldn't send me a valid letter/emailed PDF contract to explain it.  WEIRD!

AND I got calls from like 3 Mary Kay ladies.  The most recent is rather nice, didn't push for an appt, found out she used to do makeup for a photographer studio... but I still don't want to find time for a MK sales pitch - I'm busy, and MK stuff smells funny to me!
