St. Paul Hotel on your wedding night...worth it or not?

Just trying to decide where we will stay on our wedding night.  I know a lot of people who stay at the St. Paul Hotel.  Rates run about $300/night and I'm just wondering if it's worth it?  I have a feeling that I'm going to be so tired that I'm just going to crash, so it seems silly to spend that much on a room that I won't really even get to enjoy.   But at the same time,  I only get one wedding night, so I should get to stay somewhere really nice.   What do you ladies think? Any married ladies have opinions on what their night was like?   BTW - our reception is not in a hotel and the closest hotels are a Country Inn and Super 8 so I'm willing to make the drive for a nicer hotel!

We're staying at the Radisson University, in one of their huge suites which is about $300/night.  But I'm staying in the room the night before with the girls so we can use the room to get ready the morning of.

We might just scrap it and come back to our apartment though!

If your wedding is close to the St Paul Hotel, I say maybe. I was thinking about doing it the night after the wedding night since we're not going on a HM,  because, like Steph said, after the wedding I'm imagining I'll be super tired and just go to bed pretty much right away! We're staying in an AmericInn our wedding night.

We were thinking of doing the St. Paul hotel also.  Interesting to see replies.  We haven't booked yet but are wondering if we should stay somewhere else to save money or just come home.

We’re staying at the St Paul Hotel on our wedding night.  It was $180 (with tax) for a basic room with king bed.  The wedding suite was more expensive which I thought would be nicer to do for our 1 year anniversary.  All of the rooms are beautiful and considered ‘luxury hotel rooms’!  I mentioned to the front desk that it was our wedding night and she assured me that our room would be in an isolated area and she’d try to get a room with an amazing view.  I’m excited to stay there- even if it’s only for 10 hours!

Our hotel block was at the AmericInn in Oakdale, and they offered us their fireplace/hot tub suite for the same rate as the block ($79).  We didn't get in until about 1am, and we were pretty tired.  We did use the hot tub and had the fireplace going, which was a really nice way to relax.  We were up by 8:30am the next day and went down to the continental breakfast (pretty good with cereal, waffles, bagels, fruit, juice, milk).  Because it was our hotel block, the entire area, about 10 tables, was filled with our family and friends.  It wasn't something that I was really anticipating, and it was so great to be able to casually talk to people the next day.  They all started clapping when we came down the stairs.

For me, it wouldn't be worth $300 a night, because we knew we'd be at the reception until the end at midnight.  I'd rather put the money towards a nicer hotel on the mini/honeymoon.

FI and I are staying at the St Paul Hotel for our wedding night. It's right across Rice Park from our reception, so it's very convenient. FI booked the room, so I'm not sure how much it cost (or if he booked a nicer room). But the "basic" guest rooms are around $150/night and are still pretty nice.

I think it's totally worth the money! However, if you're uneasy about spending the money because you don't think you can swing it, then I say don't do it. It's not worth racking up any debt for!

However, it's your wedding night - it'll feel WONDERFUL to fall asleep and wake up in a gorgeous place with your new hubby!

We're staying at the Grand Hotel in Mpls - it's a short ride from our reception and we're planning on going to Hell's Kitchen for breakfast (just the two of us). Our room block is also in DT at the Westin.

    Good luck!

I had my reception at the St. Paul Hotel and our room came with the rental.  I was so exhausted, we barely got to enjoy it.  My shower the next morning was blissful and I enjoyed that part but I would love to go back sometime when I wasn't so wiped out.  No joke, I think DH and I were awake for a grand total of 20 minutes before totally crashing.
