send out your invites?

I've read in most places that 2 months before is standard.  But I just read a column in the most recent issue of Bridal Guide where they said to send them out 4 months before the wedding, with the RSVP date 10 weeks before the wedding.  I have no intention of doing this (sounds insane to me!), but I wondered what most people did.

Hmmm... I was planning on about the two month mark. I am also sending out save the dates though. Maybe they are recommending 4 months if you aren't sending out save the dates?

We are sending them out late July for an early Oct wedding - so about 2 months ahead of time. Our RSVP date is one month out.

I sent mine out 8 weeks before, with an RSVP date of 3 weeks before.  I've seen on the boards 6-8 weeks is pretty standard. (we also sent out STD's last fall).

I'm having a hard enough time getting all our RSVP's back...our due date was April 3rd and we only got 70% returned by then (grrr!).  I think sending them out anything over 2 months, more people might forget to RSVP.

Most of our guests are coming from out of town, so we are sending them out a little under 3 months out. I was shooting for 3 months out, but that did not happen! I should hopefully have the invites all done by the end of this week, so I'll be sending them out then.

I sent mine out mid February for a May 1st wedding. Our rsvp date was a month prior to the wedding.

I'm getting married June 5 of this year. We mailed them on April 2nd and our RSVP by date is May 12.

Just make sure your RSVP date allows guests to finalize travel plans etc but that it will also allow you a couple of weeks to call those who don't RSVP and most importantly make sure you know when your vendors need to have final guest counts by and set the RSVP date accordingly.

We were trying to figure this out lately!  2 months out for us would be early September, but I'm worried the invite will get lost in everyones "back to school" madness?  Maybe we'll send them out a week earlier or later... Probably do the RSVP date about 3 weeks prior.

We are sending ours out 7 weeks early and having people RSVP 3 weeks before.  We sent out STD's last fall for a June wedding

We're planning on a bit over 2 months out.

I got some perspective when a good friend of mine (one of my bridesmaids, actually) was freaking out and annoyed when her friend hadn't sent out an invite to her wedding before 2 months out. For people who really like to plan, it doesn't hurt to go earlier. But 4 months does seem really early.

Also, the wedding scenario I just described was a New Year's Eve wedding, so that makes a big difference, too.

I just noticed on The Knot's task checklist that they suggest three months. I had planned on sending our invites out in mid-August (8 wks) but will probably send them out at 11 weeks because our RSVP date is 3 wks out.

I always thought it was 6-8 weeks out unless its a destination wedding, on a holiday weekend, or there's mostly out of towners.  I wouldn't want to send them out too early because it would seem really far out and easily forgotten for many people.

I am sending mine out 7 weeks early with the RSVP being 3 weeks before our date.  This gives our guests exactly 1 month to make final travel decisions.  I have all of them stamped and ready to go.  May 4th can not come soon enough so I can finally put them in the mail!!!  We did STDs back in December so everyone knows it is coming.    I have to say if you seen them too early I have seen where people loose the invitation and you never get the RSVP back.

Our wedding is June 26th and we sent out our save the dates right after Christmas and the invitations are going out at the end of April (2 month mark). I put the RSVP date as May 26th.  I figured that was plenty of time, but at the same time not too much where people just forget about them.

<div>Ditto.  Don't send more than 8 weeks out because your guests will forget about the event.  They aren't thinking about your wedding day in and day out like you are.  Imagine right now if you got invited to something in July - that's pretty far out, isn't it?</div>

That's what save the dates are for :)  I guarantee I would lose the actual event detail information (hotel accommodations, ceremony/reception directions, times, etc.) if it were sent out more than 6-8 weeks ahead of time.
