BM Dress frustration - Wendy's Bridal

Hello fellow Knotties,

So, the bridesmaid dresses for my wedding came in, and I picked them up last weekend. We ordered them from Wendy's Bridal in Dublin, since they're one of the few places that carried the one we were looking for. Now, having ordered bridesmaid dresses for two weddings I was in this past year, I completely understand that the sizing works differently, and you often end up ordering a size or two larger than you usually wear. So, I didn't think it was too unusual that my bridesmaids were told to order larger-than-usual sizes by the women at Wendy's Bridal.

When I met with three of my bridesmaids to give them their dresses, they tried them on, and all three dresses were too big! Not just a little loose, but loose enough that the dresses would not stay up unless they were being held up. In looking at the dresses for the other three girls in the wedding party, I have no doubt that there will be the same sizing issues there, too.

Like I said, I understand that when it comes to bridesmaid dresses, the sizing is going to be off. The dress sizes need to be ordered to fit the largest measurement of the bridesmaid's body. But each of my girl's dresses are going to need significant alterations, I'm worried to the point of distorting the look and style of the gown. Not only that, I don't want to ask my bridesmaids to fork out additional funds for alterations, when being in a wedding party is expensive as it is!

As you can tell, I am extremely frustrated. I was not impressed with Wendy's Bridal to begin with--I found most of the staff, with the exception of Lil who we worked with very briefly, to be abrupt and almost rude. When we questioned the size issue when we were ordering the dresses, they were very pushy about ordering the "right" (i.e. larger) sizes.

Do you ladies have any recommendations for what we should do? Would calling Wendy's Bridal or the designer be a good idea? Any ideas and suggestions are appreciated!

TIA!

Katie

I haven't heard many good things about Wendy's...I went there to have my MOH try on a dress that I found online, and Lil helped us.  She was nice and helpful--I didn't order my dresses through them, I ordered mine online and followed the sizing chart of the designer.  I would talk to them about the sizing problems and see if they would discount the alterations, but I don't know if you want to even give them more business.  But you should tell them about their screw-up and maybe they'll give you some compensation.  Maybe you can find an affordable seamstress around that could make the alterations without charging a ton of $$.  Good luck and I hope it works out!

Absolutely do not get the dresses altered there! When I was going to order my BM dress there for another wedding they tried to pull the same crap with me. I had to sign my life away saying I was ok and approving the smaller size. The dress came in and was STILL too big and had to be significantly altered.

Are all your bridesmaids local? It really helps if you can get them altered at the same location. There is a woman in Pickerington named Sharon Little that works out of her home. She is VERY reasonable and does a really nice job. She altered I think 5 out of the 7 bridesmaid dresses for the wedding I was in. If you are interested in her send me a private message and I will get you her phone number.

I was the one that posted the negative review about Wendys a few days ago...this only adds to the negative things about this place!

I will also say to this that I've heard very little positive on Wendy's. I went in two times and would've purchased my dress from them if they hadn't been abrupt and rude/annoyed with me the whole time. I tried on 1 dress the first time and 3 the second, not like I was all indecisive and took hours upon hours with them. I went online to find my dress thaT I liked from them since I didn't want to give them my business. BUT....then I found a totally different dress anyway. But if they would've been decent I would've given them my business.

After reading the PP's, it sounds like they may have did that on purpose so you could spend significant amounts of $$ in alterations. I did not have a good experience there, nor did my sister a few years ago when she was looking at prom dresses. I would DEFINITLEY take the dresses elsewhere. I would recommend Alan Ray Bridal (where I got my dress), Alan is awesome and knows his crap. Or you could also ask for recommendations from family or friends that have a trusted person that can do alterations. As far as any other places around town, I can't think of any off the top of my head right now.

If you go to Wendy's in Dublin you definetly want to work with Lil. Make an appointment to be sure you get her.  We've been there a couple times for different weddings and she really is the one to work with there.

I am glad to read this I was planning on getting my bridesmaids dresses there.  I will look for my dresses some where else or at least let my girls know not to listen to them about ordering too big.

I just went to try on wedding gowns there on saturday and the lady kept on insisting that no size 10's or 12's would fit me (even though that's what fits in other bridal stores).  She kept pulling 14's and 16's for me to try and was almost irritated when I insisted on trying a 12 in a sample dress.  Even right before i put it on she said that it probably wasn't going to fit me and the waist would hit me in a bad spot (trying to dissuade me from even trying it).  It was the best dress that I tried and look gorgeous- and then she was raving about how it fit me perfectly and wouldn't need alterations except for length.  I passed on it - it wasn't one that I couldn't live without and I didn't really want to deal with them.  Trying Alan Ray next - any others I should check in town?
