Taking in a dress

So I ordered my dress and based on my measurements for my waist - I ordered the dress to fit.  However I am mildly freaking out about the fact that the bust is well over 3" too generous.  It is beaded and molded.  After talking to my regular seamstress that I trust - she informed me that you cannot really take those things in very well or only minimally without destroying the integrity.  Any other less endowed girls out there have the same issue?  I know that while in the store they simply made it sould like it was no problem,  I am now second guessing the size I ordered.  There is only so much I want to stuff in there.  My seamstress hasn't actually seen my dress ( I have a few months before it comes in)

Please assure me that it will be fine. Or if I should start my bust enhancing exercises immediately.

Honestly, I think your seamstress is being a wuss ;-)

Granted, I don't know the exact details of your dress... but I have seen some pretty elaborate bodices taken in... and quite successfully if done by a competent seamstress. The fact that she'd say no before she's even seen it sounds a little iffy to me.

I agree and was actually surprised when she made the comment.  I have trusted her with many a complicated things (lots of vintage gowns) and it was never a problem.  Maybe she doesn't like working on that sort of thing.  I'll probably show it to her in person and if she doesn't want to try it - than off to Louise I go.

Check out veijes' dress.  It has a fair amount of beadwork on the top, and I think she had it taken in a lot...like 5+ dress sizes.

    Louise is a miracle worker.

When my brother was getting married, his SIL was 8 months pregnant or something like that. Louise did our BM dresses and this SIL had to purchase her's much bigger than she is...huge like 4-5 dress sizes. Louise took it in like a dream, and she did great on the bust part. Granted there wasn't any beading, but she didn't have any problem wiht it. She even did it w/in like 2 weeks of the wedding because his SIL kept getting bigger.

Anyway, long story to recommend Louise.

Maybe your seamstress just isn't used to working on wedding dresses? My dress is huge in the bust but fits well everywhere else. I took it to Louise, and she didn't seem the least bit concerned. Mine's not super duper extravagant, but there is some beading and embroidery. I think you'll be fine.

Like Heather said, I had my dress altered by Louise. It was taken in a TON! And still being taken in more 4 days before my wedding haha. Look under my bio, you can see how much was taken in (even though it was pinned in the back, you can tell it was huge on me). Louise does an amazing job!

    Go to Louise!
My dress is WAY too big on me and I had my first meeting with Louise yesterday. I was very concerned that she wasn't going to be able to take it in (about 3" on each side) because of all of the beading on my dress. The entire top / bust of my dress is beads and it rouches to the side with beads, etc ... I thought there was no way she was going to be able to do it because the beads are actually sewen into the dress (no lace). She took one look at it and said this would be easy (after 2 of my mom's friends who are seamstresses said they'd never take this job on).
I got to see some of the other amazing work she's done - I was very encouraged at how confident she was.
If your seamstress isn't confident she can do it, i'd be scared away!!

I wonder if Louise gets on here and just smiles to herself realizing all the love regarding her!  This is really comforting and has put my mind at ease.  Thanks all!

Mine is a little big, but I will probably be getting cups sewn in. If your beading really is a problem, you could try that.
