Minnesota-Minneapolis and St. Paul

Let's make a list of....Minimoon Locations

For the newbies, a minimoon is a shorter, cheaper version of a honeymoon, often done immediately after the wedding but with the intent that a more elaborate honeymoon will be happening sometime down the road.

DH and I went to Washington D.C.  We didn't plan it all, but just went wherever we found the cheapest flights.  We spent under $1000 for the two of us on hotel, food, air, and attractions.

I've also heard Gunflint Lodge is nice and Blue Fin Bay Resort, both upstate.

So...
Washington DC
Gunflint Lodge
Blue Fin Bay Resort

State/National Parks road trip :) I love camping though I haven't been to Yellowstone but would LOVE to go!
Northern California visit the Redwoods and Wine Country :)
Ski Trip (Colorado/Montana/Utah) if its Winter Minimoon.

A friend of a friend went and stayed in a Tree House at a resort for a few days. I would LOVE this also.

Otherwise I would try to go to the states I haven't visited. Visiting all 50 states in on my Bucket List. ETA - Most of the states left are on the West Coast.

    Wisconsin Dells
Duluth (very cheap) that's where my parents honeymooned
    Arizona (Grand Canyon)
I also like the idea about Yellowstone. :) It's so pretty there.

We will most likely be going to Duluth, or somewhere secluded "Up North." FI loves the outdoors, and secluded rustic places, so we will be mini-mooning there, and going to the Caribbean for our honeymoon.

We went to Sundara Spa in Wisconsin Dells for a couple days because it's on our way back to Chicago.

SUCH a great place! They have this amazing bath ritual (it's free, unlimited), and then you can also spend exorbitant amounts on other spa services. :) It was great for us since Andy had to get back to finish his semester. But we're definitely still excited for our official honeymoon sometime next year. Africa, anyone?

All my ideas have been listed...we are going to Milwaukee the weekend after our wedding to see the Twins/Brewers game...so maybe add a road trip to either Milwaukee, Chicago, or Kansas City (all major cities within an 8 hour drive)

We went to my parents' cabin but really wanted to take the train out to Glacier National Park (I got laid off 4 months before our wedding so we basically went for the free trip since money was insanely tight)

    Lutsen Lodge
    Ely
    Chicago
And I've always wanted to go to Maine or upstate New York.

We still haven't gotten around to it (eye-roll) but DH and I plan on getting a nice room downtown Mpls for a night or two. Yup, about 10 miles from home. We thought about Duluth, but didn't want to spend a weekend there while it was cold. We figured it would be an excuse to get a really nice room and try some of the spendier restaurants we've been meaning to check otut.

We are staying in Stillwater for a couple nights after the wedding and then we'll be joining FI's family in the Dells.  So I would add Stillwater, MN to the list and 2nd the Dells.

We haven't planned anything yet, but we've got the week after the wedding off.  I'm thinking Grand Marais or Chicago.

Ditto Stillwater! Also, St. Croix for camping.
Door County is nice as well.
    You could aways do NYC!

The hotel we are having our wedding at would make a great Minimoon spot:

Grand Superior Lodge. It is in Two Harbors so it is not as far as Lutsen or Grand Marais but it is just as nice. They have tons of included activities on site. I guess they have a really active activities coordinator so he does guided canoeing, kayaking, hikes, bike trips, yoga. Plus they have a free shuttle that will take you between all of their other properties if you want to do one of the other activities. If you don't want to do the guided stuff I think you can still check out bikes, canoes and kayaks all day.
