"Freelance" Hair & Makeup artist?

Happy Friday chicas!  I'm looking for recs on a hair & makeup stylist that's willing to come to our hotel in Bloomington to work on me and my maid of honor ONLY.  We'd like to have lashes applied along with airbrush makeup.

I am having trouble finding someone that's willing to work on site, is fine with styling just two ladies, AND is reasonably priced.  Everything I've seen there's a client minimum and it'd end up being $300+ just for me!

  • I'm having Smart & Chic come and do onsite hair and makeup for just me and my MOH. There's no minimum and you can choose between different levels of artists for a price that fits your budget.

Really?  Great!  I just assumed they'd require a minimum.  Now that I look at their website again I guess I didn't realize they have two price options listed and one says something about a reduced price with bridal party minimum.  Good to know!

Are you doing a test run before your wedding?  Have you been pleased with your correspondances with them?  I've been hearing some mixed reviews lately about S & C...

  • I just got an email from S&C that my artist wiill be contacting me in the next week to schedule a trial run.

I know what you mean about the mixed reviews and honestly, I think it had a lot to do with their recent change in ownership. The original founder of S&C left the company last year and it seemed like things were just falling through the cracks for several months. Then a new owner came in and really turned things around. I got a very long, sincere email apologizing for the previous lack of communication and promising better service. They also implemented some new scheduling systems and things seem to have improved quite a lot.

  • Trixie, great to hear.  I see the pricing on their website & you don't have to say what you're actually paying but it looks like they're charging approximately $175 for bride hair & makeup (for studio not master stylist) & then the same fee again if you'd like a trial completed?  Seems steep!

It was nice as one of my BM left some of her stuff at home and Amber just jumped in and did her makeup... she was completely reasonable as well! I Love Amber!
