NWR: Finally, a huge break!!!

Some of you may know I recently started a non-profit organization called Big Hearts Charity for medically disadvantaged children. My little brother had sever heart problems, and I pretty much grew up at children's hospital, so it's a cause that means a ton to my family. Its something I've dreamt of doing my whole life, and it was super exciting when we got our first huge donation of $22,000! Only slight problem: it was in candy. I have been trying to sell it door to door, but its been really hard and we have seriously have thousands and thousands of bags.

I've been calling all over trying to find different outlets to sell it, and its been really tough. I finally got a call back--FROM THE MALL OF AMERICA!!! We are going to have a kiosk there!! I am beyond estatic!!!!!!

We are hoping to get a good part of the candy sold in the next couple weeks because I really want to buy christmas presents for the children who have to be in the hospital over Christmas.

I don't know exactly where we will be yet, we meet with the design guy on friday and will hopefully be in this weekend.. but if you are there doing christmas shopping and see us, stop by and say hi! I will likely be the one working there 90% of the time. I'm just so beyond excited, I had to share!

That is awesome!!!

I have a brother who passed away at the age of 7 from a rare genetic disease (CGD) and was at Children's (Mpls) for 4 months up until he went to Heaven on 12/28/03. They were SO wonderful there. I hope to be at MOA sometime this holiday season and would love to buy some candy and support the wonderful cause.

Good for you, and thank you for thinking of the fighting children and their families. How is your brother doing?

That's so great! I didn't know you had started a non-profit, but that's really inspiring. I'll definitely be at the MOA at some point in the next few weeks, since the only place to get FI's big gift is at the LEGO store, so I'll stop by. Do you know where your kiosk is going to be yet?

Martiac - So sorry about your brother. Bobby was also at Children's in Minneapolis, and they are really so amazing there. We are buying the presents for the kids there. As for Bobby, he's doing amazing now. He has had about 6 open-hearts, countless more surgeries, a pacemaker in his stomach. Everything with him is completely experiemental and he will have to continue to have surgeries every few years, but he's doing better than ever expected. He's in his first year of pre-med at St Mary's University in Winona and loving it. He's the best kid ever.

I Want Cake - We don't know yet, I'll find out on Friday. Hopefully its in a good spot!

I worked at Children's Mpls in the NICU for several years and am soon starting at the U of M's Amplatz Children's Hospital. While I haven't had someone in my family experience this, I have seen so many families go through heart surgeries and hospitalization after hospitalization. The holidays are the worst by far, emotionally - so the fact that you are taking so much of your own personal time and energy during this season to raise money and help the kids and their families.... seriously, it warms my heart and is bringing a tear to my eyes. Donations during the holidays mean so much to patients
