Mini-moon ideas

Hi all! I have been away for a while with work and grad parties...but now I'm back!

I am beginning to realize that we are probably going to run out of funds before our honeymoon, what with everything that I keep falling in love with for the wedding! So I was wondering if anyone else is going on a mini-moon. I was thinking somewhere local (within driving distance I mean - since airfare is sooo expensive lately!). I love just laying around and being a bum, but my FI loves hiking and nature-y things. So a combo of the two would be perfect!

Please let me know if you have any ideas :)

Thanks!

You can do a mini moon on the north shore and have it be very driveable, have gorgeous state parks to hike in, and they have all sorts of price points for accommodations.

We're doing our mini-moon right after our wedding, and our full honeymoon in the winter.

We've reserved the Grand Superior Master Suite at Bluefin Bay for our mini-moon.

I'd never heard of Bluefin Bay, but several of the ladies on here went there for their mini-moon, and I've only heard great things!

I second the North Shore Idea.  Otherwise you could take a trip to one of the Dakotas, but I think the North Shore would be more romantic & relaxing.

If you are into a Spa, I would highly Sundara Spa in Wisconsin Dells.

I'm not sure if this is an expensive idea or not, but you could possibly rent a houseboat. You can lounge around in the sun, swim, or sail to little islands in a large lake and explore. My FI did this with his family on Rainy Lake (I think it was Rainy) and had the time of his life.

We stayed at Rhapsody Spa Resort on Lake Delton and had a very relaxing HM!  We stayed in the Italian Renaissance suite and got a couples massage the first full day we were there.  We also did some tourist-y stuff and experienced the area :)

The north shore is gorgeous, but April is not always the best time to visit. In Grand Marais, for example, April is called "mud season" because the snow is gone and spring won't arrive for another month (or two). Staying exclusively at a resort can be nice, but the cool weather (and leftover snow) may hinder any outdoor activities.

One option that might work is doing what hkiesling did - waiting until the last minute and booking an airfare/hotel deal....
