April 2013 Weddings

Anyone else just OVER IT? (MAJORLY venting here - feel free to ignore)

If I have to make one more decision, I think I am going to lose my mind!

Every single one of my vendors is claiming that my emails are going to their spam folders, so they're not answering any of my questions on time.  And, of course, nobody picks up their phone or returns a voice mail quicker than a week.

My printer is leaving black smudges all over everything, and my DIY list for the printer is about as long as my arm.

My first dress fitting is in 2 days and Mother Nature reared her ugly head, which made me realize that she's going to be hanging around for the majority of my honeymoon, possibly the wedding as well.

FI's best man backed out due to health reasons, and he STILL hasn't asked the new BM yet.  I may seriously divorce him before I marry him if he doesn't get his act in gear!

NONE of our guests have booked their hotel rooms.  I know they have 12 weeks, but I don't know if I'm planning a wedding for 5 people or 65 people.  How do I order a cake, buy things for Out of Town bags, and order food for the Rehearsal Dinner?  Maybe a destination wedding was a bad idea.

*sigh*  And I've had a migraine for 6 days.

  • Deep breathes.. lots of them and possibly a big glass of wine are in order!

Take two excedrine migraine, that should help, and LOTS of caffeine.  Also try a cold compress on the back of your neck.

I feel your frustration!  Lots of decisions are needing to be made right now and no one feels the sense of urgency like we do.   Have you tried cleaning your printer or changing out the cartridge?

People aren't going to book the hotel until the last minute.  It stinks for our purposes but people are lazy.  So try not to stress.  Most of my vendors don't need final counts until 2 weeks out.  Ask your vendors how late you can give them head counts.

Everything will work out!  Just get to feeling better and everything else won't seem as stressful!

  • Hang in there!  My "friend" showed up early the last 2 months making it due right in the middle of my HAWAIIN HONEYMOON!  What???  If it comes any earlier in the next couple of months it will be here for the wedding as well.  Having severe pain and vomiting at that time of the month is not making me look forward to it!  If my stupid period would have just stayed on track the way it did for the 7 months before I wouldn't have had it until we get home from Hawaii!  Sigh.... maybe stress will make it come later. I sure hope so, FI has 2 kids and we are planning on TTC after the wedding, so this might be our only vacation alone for quite awhile.  I do not want to be sick with cramps...  Whaaa :(

As for the rest of your stresses, I understand them as well.  I have my grandparents telling me, I'll let you know how we feel and if we can travel a couple weeks before, ok?  Um, no!  We need a final headcount 6 weeks before due to the venue and FI's Mom is going to take care of the food and wants to know well in advance how many people she will be providing for.  I understand that!  I am not a last minute person either.  I realize my grandparents are old, and something may come up (unlikely though, they are in pretty good health) but please just let me know if you think you are coming or not.  This is both sets of grandparents, by the way.  I also have countless other relatives that will do the same thing I am sure.  Most of my family still lives in Montana, and they are very relaxed and slow and aren't really bothered by deadlines...maybe it's a MT thing, maybe it's my family LOL.

Anyway, the pressure is on for us now, 3 months left, just breathe, relax and try to get through it! :)  FI and I went to see "This is 40" yesterday, it was so funny!  Maybe try and watch a funny movie to relax you, it helped me... somewhat.  LOL

  • Sending *HUGS* your way! I have been stressed, and def. way more then usual. I have also had headaches too. I go to bed thinking about the wedding and wake up with it on the mind.

Did you send your invites out yet? Is there a date that they have to book the hotel rooms by? I sent out hotel room block cards with our STDs.... We have 7 rooms booked so far, but I am figuring when the invites go out feb 1, and they check out the hotel block card again and that the block cut off date is feb 20 we will get more rooms booked. A lot of people have told us they are staying, but just haven't booked it yet, and some of those people include my sister and my mom! So I am also waiting to make the oot bags, and book shuttles.

As far as cake, I def.  think you can speak with the bakery and give them a approximate head count. Thats what we did with ours. She said a week before the wedding we can give her an exact. HTH!

  • Yup..... Totally feeling you. We had tux drama over the weekend which was on FI birthday so we got in a fight. I just want to be married and I realize that all the things that stress me out have NOTHING to be with me or him..... It's all things related to guest comfort which although is important really....... Isn't worth the drama.
  • I'm glad I'm not alone!

Unfortunately, I have a heart arrythmia so I can't have caffeine or alcohol.  I was kind of hoping for lots of both over the next few months.

My invites will probably go out some time this week - assuming, of course, that I can find the belly bands that I bought a thousand forevers ago.  Those are missing in action.  :-(

I'm actually on my way to the doc to see if there are any caffeine-free migraine meds.  (Most are made up of caffeine and aspirin in various doses.)  Thanks for letting me vent.

  • I am DEFINITELY over it. I feel like I have a ton of things to do but so many of them have to wait until closer to the wedding. It's driving me nuts. I, too, find myself waking up every morning thinking of the wedding and then feeling like I'm just spinning my wheels waiting for everything to happen. I'm just done with it and ready for it to be here. The next 2.5 months are going to be lonnnng.

With the migraines, have you ever done yogic breathing? It's no substitute for excedrine, but it does help some usually. Just find a quiet space with some fresh air (outside or open window) and sit and breath very calmly and very deeply for 10-15 minutes. It usually helps my migraines just a little bit until the excedrine kicks in. I'm really sorry to hear though.

Out of town bags, can you just go to a BJ's/costco/something a few days before the wedding? That's what we're doing. It may not be as fancy as otherwise, but it's the only way I figure we can calculate how much stuff we need to get. So, we're just going to throw them together last minute.

For the food, definitely check with your caterer/bakery. Our bakery also gets a count 2 weeks before the wedding to calculate how much they'll need. Same, I believe, with our rehearsal dinner. There's a minimum, of course, and they ask for an estimate, but they get final numbers then. So maybe you can just give a ballpark figure and then give them final stuff later?

And I'm sorry for all of you about the period thing! I actually counted it out last summer and then slowly moved my pill forward by about 4 days to avoid that problem. It meant being extra careful for a few months but was worth not having to worry about it on the honeymoon!!
  • Take a decision day off if you can't do a whole day, take 6 hours. Do whatever you usually do to kick the migraine. A long nap plus exercise do it for me. You can't make good decisions if you are as messed up as I get from migraines. Mother Nature is a jerkface. Let your FI handle some stuff. If he doesn't want to do it well that's on him.

It sounds like your printer needs to be cleaned, that should be an easy thing to take care of. If it's too much hassle Fedex Office is very reasonable for printing you can set everything up online.

Everything else, scale to the bare minimum until you feel up to taking on more. Feel better!

  • I haven't had a migraine in well over a decade.  I should be thankful for that.  My doc was able to find a medication that works for migraines, but has no caffeine.  (I think it might actually be a seizure medication.)  I'm usually the type that prefers a more natural route to treat myself but after dealing with this for 2 weeks straight, I am desperate.

Our rehearsal dinner is being catered by Paula Deen's restaurant in Savannah.  I am on their schedule "in pencil" but they need final numbers ASAP because if someone else comes along with concrete numbers, they'll take them over me.  I am going to call and ask them if I can give them the number we currently know FOR SURE and ask when the last day is that we can change our order to reflect the true number.

Since it's a destination wedding, we have to be careful with what we bring so we don't end up with 20 checked bags and a small fortune in airline fees.  I don't really know what's available for shopping in Savannah.  I took a guess when I ordered from minimus.biz but all of that stuff is something we can use ourselves after the wedding if we don't end up using it all.  I guess my problem is that I'm a planner and apparently, people in Savannah aren't.  I'm used to having to plan at least a year and a half in advance for a wedding, while the people in Savannah only want to plan things a week or 2 ahead of time.  That doesn't work when you have guests who need to buy airline tickets and rent hotel rooms.  And to think we chose a DW to cut down the amount of stress.  LOL!!!

  • Savannah is probably a little more happenin' than you might think :-)  I just did a search on google maps for wholesale places there and there's a Sam's Club.  The great thing about Savannah is that there are lots of specialty places, giving it a very unique vibe.  You can use google maps or check with the chamber of commerce to get an idea of popular vendors(bakeries, etc) and then maybe get your MOH and a relative to go pick some stuff up for you so you can focus on other things.

They are super laid back there but don't worry, they will take care of you :-)

Oh, we've been to Savannah many times.  I just haven't ventured outside of the tourist area to know what's out there, and the chains that are out there probably aren't the same ones we have here in the midwest.

My MoH is one of the ones driving me nuts because not only has she not booked airfare or hotel, she STILL hasn't even picked a dress, let alone ordered it.  Tick tock, less than 12 weeks.....

Yes, I have a migraine and I'm a raging you know what today.  I can totally admit to that.  lol

  • Haha, it's okay, you're allowed.  I like to have a plan well in advance, too, so I would be just as frustrated as you are.

Maybe your hotel would have some suggestions, too?  I'm sure they've had brides that want ideas in the past so maybe they could accomodate you.

Good luck, let us know how it goes!
  • So yes, Topamax (seizure med) can help migraines and it has no caffeine.  Awesome.  It also caused my ears to ring, which was listed under the "Seek medical attention right away if you experience any of the following" category.  Fantastic.  I didn't want to go rushing to the ER at 10PM when it was 10 below zero, so I called my doc's on-call Resident.... and he was drunk.  Awesome.  Barely slept last night but today I'm knocking on wood and I don't even think I'm going to type it out because I don't want to jinx myself.  Just keep your fingers crossed for me.

It is currently 2 below here, and my sister/MoH just called to say she's on her way over so we can go dress shopping.  Would have been nice to have a little warning, but I'll take it.  Hopefully that will be 1 more thing to cross off the list.

  • Topamax is a wonderful medicine, but it has ridiculous side effects!  I took it and for 6 months I was great!  The 6 months after that I started getting acne on my back and my hair started falling out...Bad.  Like clean the drain every other day bad.  I was convinced I was going to be bald by the time the wedding came around so I stopped taking it almost a year ago.  It took months for the acne to go away and for my hair to stop falling out like crazy...  I miss feeling great while taking it, but it was not worth it to me.  I take a vitamin approach to my health problems now, it's not *as* good as medicine, but it sure does help more than doing nothing.  Do you take vitamins/herbs?  Try doing some research if not and see if there is anything out there that may help.  It probably won't help you right away, but if you keep at it for a few months you should notice improvement.  The most recent vitamin I have been using in my cocktail is a B Complex Stress Relief Formula.  It's pretty good.  I am still stressed sometimes, but stress has not been consuming my every second anymore.  Also, have you tried eliminating certain things from your diet?  Headaches sometimes are caused by gluten or dairy... again, it's worth a shot if you are into the natural helaing type stuff.  If all else fails see if the doctor can prescribe a round of vicodin!  That should totally help :)
