April 2013 Weddings

The dress was easy, how do you commit to a pair of shoes?

Somewhat piggy backing off my other post about Alterations, I have to decide which shoes I'm going to wear to my alterations appt, and by default on my wedding day, like now.

I have three options technically:
The pair that match my dress PERFECTLY. (Ivory ruffles ftw!) but are super painful...

Second option is royal blue ruffles , more comfortable, cute as all get out and a loud color (with ankle strap!).

Third, a pair of wedged flip flops for when I inevitably take off the heels for more comfort.

How do you choose? The highest heel or the lowest? Changing my mind on which shoe to wear after alterations means the hem line will not be changed so, I guess I'm trying to decide what's going to give me the most options in the event I *do* change my shoe decision later....

Have you committed to a shoe already?

Both of your first two choices are great!!! I would say they are very simlar except the color. I would go number 2, but I am biased. I love when brides wear a colored shoe! I actually bought my shoes before my dress!!! I have always wanted a pair of badgley mischka's and found the ones I wanted in the color my girls are wearing on ideeli for more then half off what they normally sell for. What helped me decide was that I knew I wanted to wear a color, then it was the price, then comfort. For me they are not out of the norm of what I have worn before. They are high but I have worn high heels before, I also have flip flops to wear later on.

  • I decided to skip straight to the flippy floppys :-)  What can I say?  I'm a Carolina girl!!!  I would encourage the blue shoes because they're a super fun color, they're more comfortable and you could probably wear them again, right?  Also, I feel like brides that have colored shoes get more of an "Ooooh and Aaaahh" from the crowd when they see them(garter pull, etc).

Bottom line, the blue shoes are freakin fabulous.
  • I really like one and two! I choose my shoes over the summer. I saw them on Pinterest and just knew they were the ones.

  • Keep in mind if you are switching from heels to flats to alter your dress to the flats otherwise the bottom of the dress and the bussel are all going to be 2-3 inches off and dragging on the ground thus causing people to step on it and you having to drag your train around all night by hang :)

  • Don't go for the painful ones. Even if you're only wearing them a little while, you don't want to be uncomfortable during pictures/ceremony/etc. Also, as someone said, remember that switching to other shoes can affect the length of your dress. How different in heel height are the first and second shoe? If it's about an inch, your seamstress can probably split the difference so you'll be fine wearing both.

I hate heels, but my mom insisted I have something in the church, so I got these (click). Then, for after the ceremony (part of the pictures and most likely the rest of the night), I got these (click) which I'm just so in love with and super super excited about. Both are pretty comfy though (well, the toms are super comfy), so I should be ok even before I take off the heels.

I know myself - I never wear heels and even when I do...I complain a lot and inevitably take them off. SO with that in mind, I wanted to be realistic and really be ME. Plus I didn't want to spend a lot of money on shoes I'd never wear again. I actually just went this weekend and purchased my wedding shoes -- (http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/style-co.-shoes-groovy-flats?ID=746202)

For you, of those 3 I would vote for the fun blue ones, but I would take into consideration your comfort level with wearing heels. If you're totally fine in them - go for it! If you rarely wear them and think they'll be a PITA all night...then I'd say to go straight for the flip flops (unless you find a wedge or something that you like).

  • I'd go with the most comfortable ones that you would be likely to wear again. IMHO cute shoes are nice and all, but you are going to be on your feet all day, most people won't see or notice them and even if you want pictures of everyones shoes it's not like that's the picture you are blowing up and hanging on the wall.

  • Well, we're getting married in a garden so I needed flats, and I wear a size 12 shoe, so I really only had a handful of options.  lol

I wouldn't even consider shoes that hurt my feet.  So nix #1 right off the bat.  I like the blue ones - not really my taste, but they'd be adorable in pictures and such.  I'm with whoever said to get shoes you will wear again.  Only you can decide on that.

And if you're wondering, I'd go for the flip flops cuz I hate heels, so it would be an easy choice for me.

  • If you want to do two different shoes, I would go with #2 and #3. As for hem length I would ask the seamstress what would work best. I would think that you want your dress to accommodate your shortest heel height.

I am still undecided about shoes, but I know that my ceremony will be longer and I would rather be comfortable and paying attention than thinking about how bad my feel are hurting. I am a fidgeter, so I know for sure that I need to wear something I won't fall over in lol.

  • I have flats and heels and I plan on getting my dress hemmed for the flats. I will wear the heels for the ceremony, without my dress bussled so I l dont think it will matter. Plus, I'm wearing hot pink shoes and want people to see them!
  • I have a bit of a reprieve, after thinking about it without coming to a good decision I just went and measured the ivory heels and the blue heels and they have the same heel height!

So I'm taking the ivory heels and the ivory flip flops to the alterations appt and hoping the seamstress can figure something out to accomodate both heights, or a strong opinion on which way to move forward.

Thank you again for all your input, you guys are awesome!
